I used to recommend the entry level Project table, but I'm not happy with the longevity of the motor. I've heard similar stories about having to replace the motor as well. As you're looking at these, I'd try to keep in mind that a good starter cartridge is anywhere from $100-200. Needledoctor buys in bulk, so you can find some pretty nice deals for both the table and cartridge. I wouldn't expect to pay anywhere near MSRP, especially for the cartridge. I also wouldn't hesitate to get on the phone with them to wheel-and-deal. Decibel in Chicago is another store I'd visit. If you aren't afraid of buying used, Audiogon is a good place to look as well.
