Rodger Stella / Hal Hutchinson - Molten Metal Ecstasy Tape

I really enjoyed this cassette for it's bizarre junk metal sounds along with the more industrial synth like atmosphere. The tape has a nice use of junk metal being used in very subtle way on this tape as opposed to outright junk abuse you'd normally hear and also a little different is the metal sounds being used in a looping sort of manner along with some strange and minimal droning sounding synths. It's definitely got a more experimental touch to it. It gives me this imagination of some abandoned factory in the middle of nowhere that's like in a dream or a nightmare that possesses these screeching metal sounds that kind of build into this total manifestation of something larger and louder. I definitely recommend this tape to those who follow both Rodger Stella and or Hal Hutchinson to give the tape a listen, it will certainly not disappoint!

Today morning I make advantage of being alone at home while working and blasted some noise tapes in a raw

Circle Of Shit / Edge Of Decay "Nahkaan Naulattu"
killer noise from both sides. Edge of Decay always manage to be really nasty.

Order Of Nine Angels "Grand High Climax"
brutal obsessive noise with satanic atmospheres. Evil and aggressive.

Blackwatch "Occidental Actions"
I bought this one fully pumped from the excellent 12'' he released for Breathing Problem Prods. This tape has unfortunately not that much (besides the concept) to share with that work. Monotonous low-fi, full distorted noise with oscillators and raw vocals, a bit boring but still full of attitude. Mention of honour for the Othila rune in the inlay.

The Streetcleener "Ehre"
Short-lived Italian power electronics/noise project from the guy behind Santos Productions. Great stuff, really aggressive, abrasive sounds with spooky atmospheres and great vocals.

Yes, this is nice. Not harsh noise at all, softer electronic psychedelia, but enough abstract (not yet "easy listening" in a its traditional sense). Interesting detailed soundscapes which work on background and also in deeper listening. Microscopic tripping.

Building Of Gel - C!S?Session CS (1998) [Kadef] : Very strange and unique style. I dont even know how to describe it. Noisy rhythmic electronica ? Pretty much. A track can be called even techno, and brought to mind another oddity in my collection where sound caught me by surprise, and wasnt at all what i expected, U.G.A.S https://k2music3.bandcamp.com/album/minimal-change . While UGAS is loop-based and quite boring -heavier though- , hey 'Minimal Change' , BOG is free-flowing, chaotic at times, with clever shifts and for some reason enjoyable. Question is : Is this tape an 'anomaly' or that was their style ? I have no idea. Anyone has listened the material on Self Abuse, Less Than Zero, Freak Animal ? Mikko ?

Hospital productions
In the harsh noise scene, all the boys talking about it. Didn't listen anything online before, nor got any of the (small edition?) tapes. Waited to get the CD from Hospital but now being out town and relying on internet streams, I decided to go for it. In deed, this is very much in lines of 90's tape noise and the new weird noise you hear about. Very primitive sessions full of tape saturation and often long tracks that keep on going often way longer than would be necessary. The spirit of 90's "let's fill this tape!" -method. Lots of odd music clips looped and fucked with, nasty feedback, everything blown up like OVMN or KADEF or something like that. Most likely just turning gain all the way max and using low grade tapes to get sound ultra saturated and messy.
Elephant In The Snow Watching The Airplane, 5 minute slowly waving feedback noise track that is almost like if OVMN played Ferial Confine with some rotating simulating effects.

Basically, nothing overly weird in it, but just noise like noise used to be before it was "junk metal noise", "synth noise", "cut up", "hnw" and so on.. Just noise made out of lots of sounds, that often are not just cool but annoying, disturbing and distracting. Always distorted, but never JUST distortion. There is always the sound itself, not shakerbox+pedal type of solutions.

The meandering and nostalgic feeling of this CD is great.

Broken Diode-Screaming On the Inside
https://www.discogs.com/release/961607-Broken-Diode-Screaming-On-The-Inside

Hadn't picked this up in a while and forgot how good it was.

Pre-Human Larvae project that was focused on a more traditional harsh noise sound. This particular 42 min CDR coming in one of the simultaneously coolest and yet most infuriating packagings I've encountered. Had to resort to a bolt extractor to try and unscrew the bolt at the bottom, which in the end STILL didn't work, but somehow managed to twist the metal bars around the disc enough to be able to get it out.

Well worth it in the end. Feedback, petals, synths, and maybe some organic sounds buried in the mix, that run the gamut from all out aggression to more restrained and tense atmospherics, perfectly invoking the mood of someone doing exactly what the title says. If I had to compare it to anything, it could remind of the ragged, charred textures of classic Skin Crime combined with the manic swings and unstoppable freight train power of Govt Alpha at his best, but this is never derivative. The final track gives hints of Human Larvae to come with some synth loops creating an ominous atmosphere and giving impetus to the higher end assault above.

Seriously stands toe to toe with any great harsh noise release imo. Human Larvae obviously expanded his sound to new heights, but wouldn't mind seeing him returning to this kind of the thing in the future if he wanted.

Hal Hutchinson / Rodger Stella - "Moten Metal Ecstasy" cassette (self released)

As the description says - electronics and metal recorded by Stella, industrial assembly by Hutchinson. Listening with a closer ear and I appreciate the airiness of these compostions. Everything seems carefully planned and the use of negative space really lends to the overall desolate soundscape. Similar vibes as the self titled HH cassette or the "Cold Industrial Experience" cd. The machines keep churning after all else is gone. One of my favorite releases from this year.

Cranial Blast

Grey Wolves - Exit Wounds CD (comp) released by Tesco.

Very nicely put together CD compilation of Grey Wolves tracks from various periods. Nicely packaged in the classic black 'n' white paper, giving a nod to their classic D.I.Y. era. It's nice for a proper CD compilation like this to appear now, seeing as a lot of their releases have gone into obscurity or CDr disc rot in today's time. Highly recommended for those who've been searching for some Grey Wolves obscurities from past compliations.

Sadistic Approach - Perverse Pleasures of Bitch Twins tape

An avalanche of dirty sounds, screeches of metal that get lost in the noise, heavy tape saturation. Influences of BU can be heard as well; the last track reminds me a bit of "Mass". A5 covers have Richard Ramirez vibe. I bought this from the artist directly at one Noisespace gig. Only 25 copies made so I'll file this under "Obscurities of Finnish noise". Track titles:

Exquisite Agony
Bound For Toilet Slavery
At Her Command
Black Whore Humiliated

Strong release that deserves love (and a reprint so people would actually listen this).

Agreed, great tape. As far as I remember, a repress was offered by a reliable label, but lack of interest (or maybe a missing master?)from one or both halves of the project led to it not being done.

mlehst – The Difficulty In Crossing A Field - 1998
All initially released it on CD-R and later re-released to a broader audience. This album leans more towards electro-acoustic sounds rather than pure 'noise'. The musical journey begins with muffled gong sounds, leading into subtle feedback and distant screams, which then abruptly transitions into the sound of crunching footsteps. It's been about a year since I last listened to this, and tonight felt like the perfect time to revisit this album. I haven't been keeping up with regular music lately, so diving back into All's discography felt like a welcome reunion.

David Tudor - Microphone - 1978
is an album that captures the groundbreaking work of composer and pianist David Tudor in the realm of 'electronic music'. Released posthumously, the record showcases Tudor's pioneering spirit and his experiments with using microphones as instruments. By employing shotgun microphone in a echo chamber to create and manipulate sound that I thought was impossible.

Scathing - Clipping Wings of Grief CD (Flag Day Recordings)

Clipping Wings of Grief starts off very strongly. Heavy industrial vibes with screeching metal. Like when the hull of a boat is under duress. A kind of metallic wailing or "singing".

Segments carefully and gradually change with steady progress through a wide variety of industrial metallic work and harshness. Pretty sure I heard a bowed string instrument with elements of high-end hiss and feedback in there. Later on there are elements of Kenny's signature cut-up style which at times are reminiscent of Government Alpha. A great use of variety and dynamics throughout with material exploring quietness and space and then stabbing back in with harsh attacks.

Kenny is again really stretching his style of harsh noise and displays a well-thought-out and meticulous composition level of editing and vision. This isn't just plug and play, a lot of thought and time went into shaping these tracks.

Scathing has been such a rewarding project to follow and the artist just keeps progressing from album to album. Highly recommended release. Definitely on my albums of the year list so far.

I also recommend going back and checking out the tape from last year, Reeking Hordes Of Rubble on Fanalstatt. Elements of that tape remind me a little of what is further explored on this CD.
