Werewolf Jerusalem - God Has Shot Himself (No Holiday, reissue)
Merzbow & Total - Merzbow Mixed Total (No Holiday, reissue)

Two reissues from this label have come out, and I think it is fair to say that these are 2 fairly monolithic releases within the canon of each artist's respective discography...

Early Werewolf Jerusalem has always been my favorite project of Ramirez's and this album shows off exactly why.  It has crushing harsh tones in spades, but also has a very off-kilter sense of movement that is not often present in later works.  One minute, we could be listening to feedback roaring at the top of the mix, only to cut to what sounds like a loose cable buzz on loop.  It's fairly unpredictable and makes for quite the adventure.
As for Merzbow & Total, this finds guitar noise at its best.  Masami knows exactly how to utilize the sounds of Total guitar screech without it sounding like an elongated Swans interlude or something.  The darkness in track two was legitimately terrifying at times when driving to it at night.

Only complaint I really have with these reissues is that they are vinyl.  Call me a stick in the mud, but releases like these are better suited as CDs for different reasons.  Werewolf Jerusalem's record was originally issued as one long track.  It is a minor thing, but that clip down the middle of the original composition is a little bothersome.  As for Merzbow & Total, you have one track clocking in at 19 minutes, while another sits at a whopping 30.  Surely that means a bad cut of vinyl for that B-Side, yeah?  I appreciate the effort on No Holiday's part to make these easier to hear now though.  I would have never even know the latter existed without it.

Agreed. I did order both WJ albums and I'm extremely excited, especially since they are remastered by Grant. However, the vinyl treatment is not my preferred method.

CD is cheaper to produce and more faithful to run times and general sound quality.

No Holiday is doing amazing work and fully supported. Just hoping more labels move back to CD especially with rising prices.

The new album art and layout looks amazing on the LP jackets though.

There are a lot of such releases these days, that have not been really made for vinyl, but now insisted to be made on vinyl. I think worst that come to mind, was some Klaus Schulze vinyl. One customer who bought 2xLP, was totally annoyed when long synth/sequencer track suddenly fades out in 20 mins, and you turn side and last 5 mins of "more of the same" fades in on b-side to complete track. hah.. what the hell?!
Luckily I do not have any aversion towards CD, and I prefer CD for stuff that clearly is meant or clearly benefits for being CD.

However, been listening so much noise all the time, that feels little odd I have not written much reviews of comments about almost anything. From this week alone, I guess dozen things, mostly CD format still at work table thats been listened enough and ready to come home.

Evening listening at home this week after getting back from Genocide Organ gig..
Handful of time times listened this two song cass ep by GENOCIDE ORGAN that was for sale at the Finnish show. I like both sides, first harder hitting, quite complex song actually with several elements, b-side with bleaker old school industrial sound. Was sold as tape + patch set. Live gig was good. Started quite monotonic, synth oscillations of longer monologies as vocals, somewhere half through the set, it's OVEEERR!!! And with harder hitting song a lot of extra energy injected into set, gets louder and crowd starts moving in the pit. In no way set that would rely in power of hit songs, but far more the newer stuff which is for me also good point that band is not nostalgia, but alive and kicking! Full report at SI website. Tape itself would probably require proper review, since tracks are actually surprisingly complex and not at all leftovers.

Pain Appendix did release "tour tape" for finn/swe gigs. 50 copies exists and may be worth asking around is wanting it. That is newer material than other new tape "Mechanism for mystical messages" was on player now. Solid harsh noise release. I was under impression it was first intended to be LP, but he felt it was not good enough. I thought it could be LP, but now that listening this tape, he is right. If PA sets level to CD albums that FA and Satatuhatta put out, for LP bar is high. In a way, C-20 is one of my favorite formats, along with 3"CD. There is something... not sure if it is magical or firmly biological, but 20 minutes duration has something that is ideal for human perception. Not only my preference, but result of scientific studies.production, but good nevertheless.
Especially the tour tape is good, but for LP, I'd say something in lines of 2024 Finnish gig and that's vinyl album worthiness, hah!

Antichildleague has three new tapes out, and Gaya mentioned this "Resist or Submit" is the hardest of them all. Yep, not only it is harsh noise, but good plus somehow very "direct". Among very best ACL for being so straight forward assault, like live noise feel to it. Couple screams, crude yet also detailed noise. Two other tapes, are no less good, just less noisy! Really showing this exceptional situation how ACL belongs to projects who have been around for ages, but just get better! Retroguard -tape, Suicidal Tolerance -tape, strongly recommended!

TAHMA live tape. One of those artists self released, dubbed on recycled tape. Might be impossible to get unless you see him at the gig and he has copies. Finn new breed noise project, and self published live tape captures his vivid and spontaneous live assaults in very good way.

LUGOLA "Harmony of Despair" tape
Polish project that started as quite typical dark ambient. This is already c. 10 years old material, but I didn't have this before. Artist handed it over. I like his more recent power electronics approach. Perhaps the favorite is "You are not special" The latest one is "Rejection Fetish", 28 minute CD release on L.white. It may be sonically more advance from the debut CD, but I liked the crunchy qualities of the first one the most. Now you got more advanced synth driven electronics, heavily efx drenched vocals, including SJ type high pitched wail. I suppose for PE die hards this is recommended. Nothing new in genre. Little turn off is some of the song titles. In lines of "better cancel yourself", "you are not special".. You get impression that artists would be sporting on edgy no lives matter t-shirt, haha.. Which is not the case here, I guess. Lugola would benefit if adding more of personality to music and substance. Something that has deeper personal meaning, whatever it would be. Since every release has potential.

Been listening so much recent arrivals, that decided to pick up couple things from vinyl shelves. First Mania/Bloomer LP. One side live collab, other studio tracks. Edition of 13 copies was with unique collage cover. Quite quiet cut on this, but no problem. Just crank the volume up and sound itself is good. Feedback, metaljunk, all those things you would expect and you'll get. Of course live recording doesn't have the trademark Mania Good things in life.

Masonna / Violent Onsen Geisha split LP. I recall this is something what was reason for VOG track "Fuck off RRRecords, bye bye noise music" on Come Again II? Mr. Gerogerigegege sent tapes to RRR who assume it was authorized to release and turns out artists had no idea about any deals and not happy about the release. However, both VOG and Masonna did CD on Pure series later on and would assume it's one of those things that is it fully authorized or not, its great it exists. Masonna nowhere among his best work, but you can understand it since this is supposedly his first noise recording.  VOG might be indeed some of the best VOG that these it? Some of the noisiest, wildest and utterly strange noise. Also notable is that some of it dates back to 1986!

Probably have to continue with some CD comments when I get to work..

PIERCING "Kites of Nephthys" CD
I must listen more, since felt like by the time CD was ending, it had gotten way better. First felt like it is stuff I like, but blend of electric sounds and other things could have been heavier?

LINEKRAFT "Junk Suicide Pollution" CD
Listened this few times, its basically collection of mostly live tracks over the years, but also some studio work. Hard to say should one consider this "compilation" or simply album build out of recordings that happen to be done over the years. I like the more lo-fi industrial noise vibe of this album!

MORAL ORDER "The slaughter of the innocents" CD
Could it be less musical album? I had impression as it MO albums would have more musical feel to them. Of course this is not noise or filthy racket, yet atmospheric industrial sound remains nicely abstract even with having musical qualities.

HEAT SIGNATURE "Trench trapped" CD
I like sound, aesthetics, and basically everything else, but slightly unsure if there should be more emphasis on "songs". I know it may be weird to expect songs from pure harsh noise album. While all the noise is good, it's harder to feel any particular form of tracks. More like old school noise tape filled all the way and notion of individual tracks being obsolete. I have given as example names like Umpio, Aprapat and so on, who may be pure abstract noise, yet albums often have SONGS. They start somewhere and go somewhere and there is this notion of "album". Anyways, it's very good noise CD nevertheless.

BRUME "Syncronicity & Wandering Current" CD
2024 works of Brume, I was curious about it. Brume has really good releases, but it has never been artists I particularly hunt for.  This CD, has a notch too neat contemporary efx/edit tricks, but I like it. Experimental sound with still little industrial culture vibe on it?

V.C.O.B.T. "Dogs and leopards" CD
Finn project that doesn't have huge amount of stuff out. This CD leans way more into industrial, perhaps some could even say "power electronics" side of things. It's noise by spirit, but its mostly heavily distorted electronic drone/oscillations, usage of Ukraine related news samples and so on.

BIZARRE UPROAR "teurasjäte / propaganda bizarre - Blood and shite 2006-2007" 2xCD
I was not sure do I need this, since I have the originals.. but well, when I had it in my hand, couldn't refuse. And no complaints! It is actually even better than I remembered! It's that era of "thin" and sharp BU, not yet "sludgy" BU. 2006-2008, that was really damn busy times for BU!

I'll be grabbing those WJ reissues as soon as domestic connect S&W stocks them, but in the meantime while the second latest No Holidays batch sprung up at the distro I went for the Total reissue, not the Merzbow remix of Total. The elongated guitar screech of M Bower scratches a particular itch for me, and Merzbow another, so the remix project never really appealed to me. I'll probably check it out one of these days.

Prepping for New York in October and have been listening to Genocide Organ's newest album, "Operations With Contempt". I'm very late to the jump on this but WOW, this might be one of their best. From the opening sample to the chaos being stripped back slowly on the closer, this is essential GO and will probably be added to the canon of PE soon.

Besides that, Agonal Lust/Swollen Korps collab album "Charnel Dwelling". Three mad geniuses all contributing to one short but grim release. If only we could get our hands on the Amygdalotomy album James mentioned on his WCN interview...Rest In Power Jamie Van Blake.

Max Julian Eastman - Leven Signs (self-released)

Pretty fantastic and bizarre serving of loops and mystical flute music.  This seems to have been made for his last tour to Finland, but I think of New Zealand when I hear it; specifically the shire.  Max smoking with the Hobbits could probably happen one day.  Anyways, this is the best kind of lo-fi noise; perfect amounts of mud and beauty equaling each other out.

COMMANDO 15 - Salattu Suomi (CD, FA)

"High pitched, ultra painful finn noise" says the sales pitch. Spot on. Unbearable at times, like bubbling, fried high pitched parts that just hurt your ears/brain. But then some really nice parts occur, great textures and nice action harsh noise. Track three for instance is gold. If you like it hard and high pitched this is a winner. Rough!

This also depends how you listen to it. With specific speakers, directed straight into ear, felt like it is indeed unbearable at times. When listening, even loud volume, but rather room sound where speakers are, and not direct "speaker from 1 meter straight into ear" -type, suddenly it is like.. can't say if its pleasant, but great! Also headphones listening seems to vary depending what headphones one is using.
When question of own releases, I tend to go through testing things with different gear, just to make sure it is like meant to.

Very true. I blasted it two times while driving in a decent car-stereo... hahaha
But yes, I do the same with my own stuff - studio monitors, home stereo, car. All to get the best overall experience.

DECONDITION - Skin, flesh, bones and marrow of truth (CD, FA)

Very impressed with this new Decondition album. It consist of long tracks that slowly build up tension (and noise) as they progress. The first tracks are quite in the "heavy electronics" realm of things as they start off, I get some Anenzephalia-vibes almost. Then layers of noisy textures are added and things get more and more intense. Very enjoyable.

Excellent morning for listening to noise includes:

Robert Fuchs - C.O.T.H. (Usagi)
Was reorganizing some shelves in the kitchen when I popped this in.  Truly fits the definition of "domestic noise," as many of the sounds blurred into the activity at hand.  I love the reservation presented here.  When I have seen Robert Fuchs live, especially the last time I did, he has been so blaring and loud; totally relentless.  This disc is nothing like that.  It shows how you can take such ungodly sound like mixer feedback and give it some gentle quality to it.  I know there are artists who have done that, but the names I think of have done with the intention of things being more "ambient."  I do not get that feeling from this disc.  The reservation of C.O.T.H. feels more like snaking a sewer than sitting in a pasture... Snaking a drain is fun to me, F.Y.I.

Various Artists - Lapse from Virtue (Sound of Pig)
Coffee kicks in now as I am making/eating breakfast to this diverse compilation.  I think this is a good example of the dub creating something stranger than what may have been intended.  Artists like Solmania & Merzbow go from being harsh monoliths to sounding like their tracks got thrown through the trash compactor.  It leads to a fun listening experience!  I think my favorite from the compilation would have to be from Nihilist Surfin' Group, whose track feels like flipping through a radio/plugging in a guitar to a fried out amp.  This is the kind of stuff that feels like a nice "warm up" trick when you first turn on your gear, but would never think to release as a serious track.  I have to give props to those who are more willing to put this kind of stuff out.

Minoy - Ejaculations (Paris,1919) (Sound of Pig)
What plays as I type at the computer.  A weird exploration through various oscillators and radio.  While it does not have the same punch as the previous 2 titles for me, I still am enjoying it.  I will see where this goes.

DEDICATED TO JÖRG BUTTGEREIT – Four Meditations on Eros and Thanatos CD (Freak Animal)

Mysterious Finnish trio paying tribute to film director Jörg Buttgereit. Famous for the cult film, Nekromantik.

Not too difficult to figure out based on the film and the imagery in the release that the thematic focus of the album is necrophilia.

The label describes the release as "muddy filthy worship." I was expecting a very crude and blown-out sounding album like Sexregler or maybe Filth and Violence style harsh noise/PE based on the description.

It's not really either of those, even though there are certainly moments that pull from those sounds. The recording quality is actually pretty clear, but the electronics are perhaps a little more crude, simple, and minimal. It's the overall atmosphere of the release that creates the feeling of filth.

The album utilizes dynamics and tension really effectively. This is well-paced and structured. It feels almost cinematic in the sense that each track feels like a different chapter in "the story." I can't help but feel that was very intentional.

The album feels very purposeful, thematic, and has a very personal quality to it that surprised me. I can't say I've heard anything that sounds like it in a while. It will definitely require additional spins to fully comprehend and digest.

Glad to see this get a mention; an excellent CD that I imagine could get overlooked due to the unknown/obscure name. Seems it's a comeback album from the gents responsible for the Dedicated to Bob Flanagan tape all those years ago. Would say this is even better than that one. Sounds like it could be a release from F&V's glory days.

Through car stereos the Salattu Suomi sounded really crisp! But with proper stereo system and  decent sized speakers it sounds almost warm, heh.
