Sharks And The Female Form / Tight Fitting Armor.
4 tracks / 58min.
A 2023 CD re-release of a couple of 2016/2018 tapes.
We begin with a lady talking about a shark attack, and then move into a rather subdued HNW. A softer / fluffier sound than I am used to from His Samness. It lulls me into a slightly dozey state... (None of this is criticism!)
More shark attack narration begins track 2, with a snippet of "scary documentary music", before we move into a new, different, but still rather subdued HNW. A kind of smoothness has replaced sharp-edged abrasion. This is fine sandpaper! Or fine sand...on the beach...where a post-attack torso lies...
...Fuck, I dunno. Liner notes pontificate on painting, cinema, literature. It's all very interesting, I suppose. But just fucking give me my HNW! 😂
The H here might be Hush vice Harsh.
Track 3 has a different feel...waves of HNW. More layerings. Surface attacks and decays. A rather distorted sound at times. Very low-end. But around halfway through the 14+min there is a sudden turn...surface layers disappear...a intesified sound...it goes back to the initial sound soon after. Very interesting.
I have a lot of The Rita, and I love the variety. This CD represents a new angle / sound for me. New colours / pace / surface conditions / mood / feel. I love the 1000mph completely insane walls, and I love this...a much more contemplative affair. I think here we are halfway between Thousand Of Dead Gods and Laura's Nylons.
Track 4 is similar to track 3, but a bit bumpier. A bit rougher. And again, a sudden turn within the track, towards a harsher sound. We are a long way from track 1. And then a turn back again. A very effective device, this.
Fascinating disc!
