Funebrarum, Dead Congregation, Krypts...

Bands that got too doomy for me.  Was it a trend in death metal this year, or was it coincidence that the few bands I follow like this all toppled over the edge [of my preferences] in that direction? I like all those 2016 releases, but they aren't going to be must listens in a few years.

Totally agree. Sombre Doom was a huge let down (as was the Krypts for me too). Luckily their live shows are still always top notch.

I loved Sombre Doom, from the few times I've heard it (my physical copy is sitting in Winnipeg right now awaiting shipment) but I think it's as good as the last LP, I would prefer another album but this as an EP works great for me, and I'm glad it's a standalone release rather than tacked on the end of an LP, I think it works great with the slow added in.

It's sort of amazing how many releases came out this year, and I wouldn't have known about most of them.  A bunch from Aural Hypnox; four being from Halo Manash (that I haven't heard).  Three from Allegory Chapel Ltd (looks like one will be delayed until early 2017).  So great that he's busy again with ACL.  Wiese/Sissy Spacek with a couple really good noisecore records and a solid collaboration CD with TMikawa.  Keith Rowe monster Room set.  A new one from Chop Shop.  Two from Tarab.
