Vocals are rehearsed. There has been old materials, old live sets, where vocals were improvised, but long time they have been written before hand, and most often rehearsed and experimented (efx, pace, intensity, volume,..) just like the noise itself. Vocals tend to be "noise" itself, not only narrative element.
Couple weeks ago was communicating with couple guys via email and we talked about "Kiveen Ikuistettu" so can post it here too:
Spent long time in making it happen. Even if material is not actively worked on all the time, it is sort of slowly developing project of getting the artwork ready. Getting sound components suit the purpose. Making something else than merely "regular album". I have no interest to take part in "art scene" so to say, but there are visual works that belongs into Grunt albums.
There is intent to present albums as more than just something quickly passing by things. More than something virtual experience. More like documented fragment of years of actual physical work/ideas/manual labor/etc. Of course this was what Grunt has been doing for long time. Especially these times I feel "noise" should be more than just streaming sound or images popping up in IG feed. It would have to somehow be connected to life in more profound ways. Activities in physical world too. Of course not sure if people would see release in such way, but it is kind of "activities in physical world" and in presence of people and objects, and not something virtual.
Kiveen Ikuistettu sound was performed live in front of audience, all visual material something I had to go to places, travel or search for locations. Actual photos, not manipulations. Or when doing acrylic paint prints of the photos, it was all physical manual labor involving all the imperfections and physicalities, such as unedited live shows crafted in front of audience are. Lyrics/themes/locations have elements that connect to themes. As a listener, can't say what they feel about it. I am fine if it is experienced just as a decent noise blast, but for me it is something that is present as more than just "album".
