I like IGR too, but think he became a bit boring after Hazel Steps... which is probably his best work. In that style Stone Breath deserves a mention too. The two first albums are somewhere between IGR and C93, whereas the following ones are more americana influenced, but all their albums are very good.

Hazel Steps is incredible and is certainly his best by a mile. It's no wonder why there was a decade-long gap before the next album, hard to follow up an achievement like that.

Indeed. There were moments/single tracks that were great on the Birch Book albums, but nothing he did before or  after ever came close to the level of Hazel Steps. Those were good times for neofolk in general. Forseti's Windzeit came out just around the same time if memory serves me right.

Didn't realize Windzeit came out the same year. One of my favorite albums of the genre. As far as IGR, I don't think I've listened to much past Hazel Steps but I do like some of the Moonlit Missives he's done.

For me, the best Birch Book stuff is the Werewolf's Eyes lathe with the cover of Crazy Man Michael. The other stuff, like covers of The Beatles, I can do without.
