What do you think about (anti)artists who they suffer from schizophrenia or/and other mental diseases or they just...well...mad or something which they are beyond (but/and also inside) from the pop culture standards and norms?

There used to be an online radio show called "Musically Incorrect" which featured a lot of this kind of thing and, if I'm remembering rightly, one of the hosts actually wrote that book "Songs In The Key Of Z". Beware Of The Blog is also a great source for outsider music, of all kinds.

I'm not sure Little Fyodor can be said to have issues with mental health. In fact, after seeing this, I was left with the impression that the two of them just had a shtick going that they stuck with. A bit too contrived, for mine. And Tiny Tim pretty well knew what he was doing, too - he made an appearance on a Beatles fan club Christmas album which, all up, was pretty surreal anyway (the drugs were starting to kick in for that band at that time).

I'm all for this kind of thing. I know I have a few ripped albums of material from people who just did not fit into conventional music at all, but did their thing anyway. I'll need to dig a little deeper into my files. This is a promising thread.

I would say Daniel Johnston's schtick is also a little contrived, which put me off his music despite enjoying some of his records - "Hi, How Are You" is a good one.

With some of these artists, one great recording is all they had in them. The Legendary Stardust Cowboy's "Paralysed" is one of the most exciting and wild things I've ever heard. The fact that he was apparently a little out-of-whack mentally is kind of irrelevant. If I try to think of an entirely sane musician anyway all I can think of is something like Coldplay - very dull stuff which I can't stand.

I have the nice compilation CD which accompanies the Songs In The Key of Z but better than that and a long time before the cynical marketing of these kind of WTF musicians as 'outsider artists' was a brilliant 1970s compilation -  http://www.discogs.com/Kenny-Everett-The-Worlds-Worst-Record-Show/release/1331195
