Estranhas Ocupações

Tartamudo is the new object-record of sound and visual poetry by Brazilian artist Yuri Bruscky, released by Estranhas Ocupações.
Special edition in single-sided 10" lathe cut + booklet with poem-score. Limited to 50 copies.

During the album production process at the factory, the cutting needle was suspended and lowered several times, causing the record's grooves to be randomly distributed on its surface. Thus, the lathe cut itself "stutters" the piece, a text-sound composition (voice + electronics) in homage to Pedro Xisto.  Each reproduction is unique, according to the particularities of the lathe cut, needle and turntable used — lasting from a few seconds to many minutes or hours, depending on each particular record and how the turntable arm jumps between grooves or gets locked in loops, amplifies the unrecorded surface of the lathe cut etc, in addition to the listener's engagement in handling the record/equipment.
