Joe Colley - Pleasure Pressure LP

New Forces presents "Pleasure Pressure," Joe Colley's latest LP of expert sound composition. Damaged wires, crackling speakers, and the existential dread of droning electronics are woven together into Colley's trademark juxtaposition of haunting minimalism and industrial wreckage. Never before has Colley's ability to bring to life all that seems broken-down been so prominently on display. Buzzing, hissing, corroded sounds are wrenched from machines that seem on the brink of imminent collapse and deftly resurrected into new forms. These acts of sonic bricolage conjure up the anxiety of collapsing networks and failing infrastructure all teetering on the brink, giving voice to the constant mechanical failures that surround us on a daily basis. Pleasure Pressure is full of extreme frequencies that push against the limits of what is sonically possible, a series of unexpected twists and turns that nonetheless feel distinctly and uniquely part of Colley's repertoire. A brilliant work from an undeniable master. LP includes a digital download code.

Sound materials generated @ Flat Affect. Edit @ Desperation Mobile, Walnut Grove, California, 2021. Grateful acknowledgement is made to Neural Operations for the use of a fragment of sound material by MK9. Cover Image by Joe Colley, oil and housepaint on canvas; design by Meeuw.

Leila Bordreuil - Snow Day 7-inch Lathe Record (Blue Can Crossing)

Blue Can Crossing continues its journey with a new lathe-cut record by Brooklyn-based cellist, composer and sound-artist Leila Bordreuil. Snow Day's haunting, beautiful tones are rendered even more contemplative by the obtuse nature of the lathe-cut record format. A gorgeous, immersive record that is over far too soon. All songs performed by Leila Bordreuil on cello, ruined piano, and reel to reel tape machines.

Additional performances by Joanna Mattrey (viola) and Lester St Louis (cello) on track 2. Track 1 recorded in February 2022 by Leila Bordreuil at home in Brooklyn on iPhone 8. Track 2 recorded in December 2020 by Shahzad Ismaily at Figure 8 Recording Studios, Brooklyn.

Mixed by Leila Bordreuil, Mastered by Jack Callahan.

Hand-cut clear polycarbonate lathe record for maximum intimacy, cut by Hex Audio Labs. Cardstock sleeve with printed vellum overlay. Limited edition. Please note: lathe records can require adjustments to the weight, anti-skate, and other settings on your turntable for optimal playback. Sometimes a penny placed on the top of the cartridge can solve all your problems. These are idiosyncratic and sometimes obtuse bits of media. Enjoy the ride.

John Collins McCormick - .com / Poseur 7-inch Lathe Record (Blue Can Crossing)

The Blue Can Crossing lathe record series continues with two idiosyncratic bits of sound exploration from John Collins McCormick. John's homemade devices click, clatter, and whir their way into your ears in ways that are both auditorily satisfying and conceptually intriguing. Careful listeners will find much to uncover, rewarded for repeat listening. The sound of things coming apart? Or the sound of things assembling exactly as intended...
