Recently I bought some CDs from a seller located in my country. It was Mikamikaidan and some Keiji Haino and Fushitsusha records. After perfect transaction I was curious to ask him, why he would even sell such great records. That was something I couldn't even imagine doing myself.
He answered..."Well, I am turning 75 this year and am still a huge fan of this kind of music, but I know nobody in my surroundings, who also likes this music." And that he always had a huge collection of experimental, noise and whatever records.
But then he decided to make a big the sell-off, as long as he still can. Somebody else should have fun with the records, instead of them being scrapped after his death.
I think this is a great and noble idea, to let others enjoy those records,after you're gone.
But I myself cannot imagine, when there would be the right time to stop collecting and instead start to sell your records for the ones who maybe desperately need and enjoy them for the rest of their lifes.
I'm afraid my noise and smut will be scrapped after my last farewell.
What do you think?
I have a fairly sizeable collection of mostly CDs, plus a big chunk of tapes, DVDs, Blu-rays, books and magazines (and a pathetically tiny pile of vinyl for good measure). Whilst I'm forever having mini-purges of inessential stuff to try and claw back some storage space/sanity, I guess it would take some dire financial situation or impending death for me to finally part with the vast majority of what I have. My immediate family have a pretty good idea of the "weird and wonderful" stuff that I like to amass, though I still wouldn't relish the idea of any of them going through it all once I've snuffed it, so if this place is still up and running when the end is near, I'll be sure to put the word out and you can all fill your boots hehe.
Speaking of Keiji Haino, Fushitsusha etc, around 20 years ago I was lucky enough to happen upon an eBay listing put up by some guy who obviously needed a quick sale to pay his rent or whatever- 25 or so CDs for a VERY nice price. They were mostly P.S.F. titles, which weren't too hard to find back then, though my eyes just about popped out of my skull when I saw there was a bunch of scarce J-Factory/Tokuma discs in there too, which used to change hands for around £40-£60 each even back then. I already owned quite a few from the listing, so I ended up selling all the duplicates individually and near enough made back what I'd spent on the entire lot!
Of course even the fucking P.S.F. CDs sell for silly money nowadays, so part of me wishes I'd hung on to them for longer, but at the time this was still a great result!
