Don't hesitate to report about spam. I don't necessary have time to follow every section all the time, so if spam appears, feel free to report so it gets deleted.
I erased plenty of forum users with dubious names/addresses and the clear spam bots. It's possibe some legit members was thrown out with the bath water, but next time fill up your profile in a way it won't be mistaken into spam bots.
All the settings of forum are on tightest level. Only way to make is tighter is to switch on manual approval of new users, which I'm not about to do just yet.

And regarding other messages that seems worth of removal, keep in mind the rules of forum. Even harsh discussions of harsh topics are fine. Personal defamation and mockery not. Unlike in forums with dormant moderators, here action is taken when needed.

Well, due recent c. 30-50 members have been spam bots, I activated system that all new members need to be approved before they write.
So anyone who doesn't get approved, should check that their profile info is something what makes me think they do belong here.

Spider Bots are useful, though. They are the ones who make sure new information, new threads, etc go up on their respective search engines. For example a Yahoo Spider will continually update the search results on Yahoo! so let's say someone types in "metal junk fetish" in the Yahoo search engine, they will more than likely get a result to link back here to the metal junk thread that was just recently started. If you take the spiders off there will be no redirection to new posts that contain information which people might search out. I haven't noticed too mcuh spam happening here, even on my forums I think I had more bots and it is way smaller than this place. Something that I did was to set it up that people are required to post at least 2 times into topics before ever being able to start their own new topic. Spam bots don't want to, and generally aren't set up to, post more than once and when they do it is usually just to start a thread. And also turned off automatic email notification for private messaging. This keeps users from receiving the email copy of the private message containing the spam.

I think the way you have it set up right now, not accepting any new members, is the most secure means of making sure Spam bots do not come our way but as a forum Admin I am sure you would still like new users to keep this forum more active and growing so "no new users" is always bit of a nuisance in that respect.

New members CAN join. They are just manually selected. Since mail last night, now some hours later, there was 22 "members" on bending approval, which all - judged by name/address or signatures - were spam bots.
Last night I erased probably 8 spam mails from board.
So new members, feel free to join. Just as mentioned: make sure your name is something that can sticks out of the "jenna695" type of names... and signature/profile info other than ads about pills.. ;)

Couple days ago I went through 1000 bending "members", where I found like 4 guaranteed real people, couple who might be, and about 985 spam bots. Since yesterday, there is 132 bending members, which I expect to be no less than 99% bots.
If you see spam or get some via PM, you can inform me about it.

And again: If you have problem to get your membership registered, it is because your name/e-mail doesn't stand out from mass of junk. E-mail first about you intending to join, so I can get the membership accepted.
