I get the sense that most contemporary noisecore is a social project rather than a "musical" one.  That can lead to a lot of energy in a scene, but rarely any need to progress.

As a side note re: Jason/Suppression---I saw them open for Boris last year on the "Pink" tour, and they very nearly stole the show.  Jason had an amp almost as tall as him, making his bass louder than the whole Boris set.

oh yes, it is very much this. Like punk or current age death metal or something. Community and live energy may come first.
