I watch a lot of movies (a bit too much but hey)....and pay a lot of attention to soundtracks. From time to time a OST pops up that really grabs me & also gets played at home.

please post your thoughts, tips, recommendations on interesting/experimental/industrial? etc soundtracks. No plain rock or musicals please :-)

some that really got my attention:

Contagion : short & minimal sequences, just some filtering, clinical
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1HZywFKtlsM

Maniac : from plain dark synth to some serious freak-out
http://youtu.be/K893VRjQM-8

Chu Ishikawa's work for Shinya Tsukamoto's movies like Tetsuo a many more....frequently beatdriven but very 'industrial' imho
http://youtu.be/nS8QvUlYO_s
http://youtu.be/hvY5xgY7z20
http://youtu.be/KgoUAAWGBXM
http://youtu.be/HfjkebnESaQ

Biosphere's work for "Insomnia"
http://youtu.be/cwBqLlq9mn8

Eraserhead....for it's 'plain noise' value
http://youtu.be/-Z3KVFAizgo

Goblin is playing live on the screening of Deep Red in Brussels today and i can't go lol

i can easily digest dark but tacky '70 prog bombast, but maybe this topic is not the right place.....

An obvious one. Thomas Bangalter's sounds/soundtrack for Irreversible.

Forbidden Planet, imho essential early electronics...

Beyond The Black Rainbow, the movie reeks of retro, and so does the soundtrack, killer synth scapes,

As mentioned in the Death Waltz thread, John Carpenter & Alan Howarth - Escape From New York. Those early electro style synth lines are just so good. And the extended version with the sound clips from the movie interspersed actually improve the soundtrack in my opinion.

The soundtrack for Clean, Shaven is A+++ too. Dusty guitars, radio chatter, minimal drones. Which reminds me of the classic Dead Man soundtrack by Neil Young with it's pump organ segments.

So many others... but my brain is not at full capacity this morning.

Refn's Valhalla Rising, oppressive drones all the way.

Adriano Celentano's eco-conscious musical-comedy "Yuppi Du", feature some impressive inserts of noise/industrial sounds. (Not to mention one of the most brutal rape scenes ever seen in Italian cinema).

Some great moments also in Bevilaqua's "la Califfa", not so much the soundtrack itself but some noisy moments into a furnace.

Great soundtrack! I believe it's the same guy who does a lot of mastering for Posh Isolation. He used to be in Sort Sol who, based on quite drunken memories from the 80's, weren't bad at all.

Riz Ortolani - So Sweet, So Perverse
Riz Ortolani - Goodbye Uncle Tom

I'd recommend swedish composer Erik Enocksson as well, especially the Farväl Falkenberg and Apan albums.

i'll second (third?) "valhalla rising" ... too bad the score hasn't really surfaced beyond a track or two.

seconding/thirding/fourthing "irreversible."  there's some truly amazing sounds on that disc, but it does get a little too electro-dancy for my liking towards the end...  but man, "rectum" is fucking creepy.

"eraserhead," of course ... i'll even add "INLAND EMPIRE."  the song selection was decent, but the score and sound design is where the true brilliance really lies.

"a serbian film" -- everyone's gonna think of "that dubstep song" that was used in the trailer, and yeah, it's on there, as well as some other techno-sounding stuff, but it's rough and aggressive enough to not be irritating.  the rest of the disc is just cold, atmospheric industrial.  great stuff.

"children shouldn't play with dead things" is one of my favorites, despite the fact that all i've ever been able to get is a rip of the sound directly from the film (no soundtrack was ever released) -- but it's all really dark analog synth noise ... really great.  rips are floating around online....

shit, there's so many more....

Jaakko V.

Always had a special admiration for Eduard Artemyev's 'Stalker' OST. One of the best movies I've ever seen, also.

My good friend works at a local vinyl pressing plant and last week he was pressing the first ever vinyl version of the Eraserhead soundtrack! Keep your eyes peeled for that. I heard the test press and it sounded better than ever!!!
