Do many Noise pervs now cite Non as an influence? Personally I still give Non time of day, particularly "God And Beast", and I've always liked his simple approach to Noise (can anyone tell me if "Back To Mono" is any good). But the rest of his endeavours haven't been interesting to me.

I like "Blood & Flame" & I think I still own "Physical Evidence". The tracks from "back to mono" I listened to on youtube were pretty good- I looked for a US distro with the LP but didn't find any but that was a couple/few wks ago. I met Boyd outside of Wax Trax Records in Denver. He knew the woman I was with who was friends with Boyd's roommate. Everything interesting about him is in the Industrial Culture Handbook so I agree that he "has had his time".

I like majority of what he has done. The fact that we still acknowledge his doings at this point - in good and bad - still is easy proof how he still has more to offer than huge amount of artists we'd never give a fuck.
I wasn't particularly enthusiastic about samples I heard of new album, but will give it a try at some point. I think previous collab with Z'EV wasn't too good.
Did read one of his collected writings (see "what you're reading" topic elsewhere) not so long ago and was at the same time entertained, but also realized to what place material falls.

With many of the underground high profile names, it appears that while in past they stood out strongly, radiating iconic qualities and innovations of pioneers... Often now they blend into mass, and not even to top cream, but somewhere barely average. Even if I don't really believe we can (or should) separate music from context, artists and his aura, at the same time it appears that for musical reasons, there are so much better things out there which simply aren't as interesting as "cultural phenomena" - but for sake of pure listening experience - would make necessity to check out "back to mono" quite unnecessary. I think the man is in his best element as example that one should do things and pursue own eccentric interests as far as possible.

Relistening to "Back to Mono" tracks on youtube & still like them. It'd be intersting to see how they sound on vinyl but I don't think it's work I'd listen to much after the first week or so. I think Sleep Chamber has him beat on their "Warm Leatherette" cover.

big fan of his work, especially of the noiser side, yet I have a HUGE soft spot on the excellent "In the shadow of the sword"
have been organising some of his gigs in Italy, entertaining guy to be around.
the best show of him I saw was in Rome with Der Blutharsch where he actually used more gear than usual and it was one of the loudest and most devastating gigs I have ever seen.
A must read about him is his chapter in PRANKS on re-search.
looking forward to listen Back to mono.

I have same impressions. I like his all albums, from "Black Album" to "Children of The Black Sun" (included compilations and more pop or neofolk works), but his "Back to the Mono" isn't good. His the latest live shows are poor too, at least that was in Poland in November.

I picked up the vinyl of Back To Mono which came with a CD. For archival purposes it's cool to hear the newly mastered live material from the late 70's. He's not "bringing something new to the table" as he states in the liner notes, but it's interesting.
The past few live videos I've seen of him have been performances of Total War. Uninspired, boring performances of Total War.
I do greatly appreciate the NON back catalogue in full.

this, though some of my friends seem to be excited about his participation in Hirsute Pursuit, and while i find it somewhat amusing, gay porn music isn't really my cup of tea.

I'm very fond of the Spell 'Seasons in the Sun' album of sixties covers he did with Rose McDowall. Great choice of songs, nice production.

Have a few of his noise albums and like them fine. What's not to enjoy? Saw him live once mid-90s, he was entertaining. Enjoyed that documentary Iconoclast, he came across a pretty decent guy on there. Of course Lisa Carver will disagree. But during one of the recent Nazi-hunting episodes he's  suffered it was good to see her on facebook saying he may be an asshole of a husband and a crappy father but the anti-fascists have it pitifully wrong.

Receive the Flame is my favorite of his works. i also enjoy God & Beast and Children of the Black Sun quite a lot. I do like his material under Boyd Rice as well. But most of all he is a great character and iconoclast to be spreading the good word of noise/industrial.

Not sure about Buddhist, but more like Gnostic Christian, believes in reincarnation. At the end of ICONOCLAST he talks with Bob Larson and makes it pretty clear that he no longer believes in lyrics of "Total War"*. So that's probably why his performances of that song have been dull. But that's besides the point. His latest album is also pretty weak in my opinion. It's bland, doesn't have anything interesting to say, and the sound is pretty much just a return to Pagan Muzak/Physical Evidence, but not as revolutionary as it was back then. It just seems that he ran out of ideas and needed to churn out a new record in order to stay relevant, especially now that "old school Industrial" is a trend (see all the mainstream hype about TG/XTG).

*Bob: At least at this point you're not trying to bring back Thor to declare total war.
Boyd: Yeah... I need to change the lyrics now about bringing back Thor...
