A new release on Amusements Banales for Spring/Early Summer:

ABR003 – Citadel "Sojourn"  – C32 Chrome Cassette Tape

When Joshua Fraser started his Citadel project, expectations were high. Previous work, released under his Suicide Bomber moniker, explored the menacing maze of Power Electronics. Fraser always managed to channel his deeply personal anguish through his sound in a very unique way. Citadel became even more personal. The project managed to create an even bigger window with a view into the mind and the heart of the artist. Post-Power Electronics became the buzzword, initially created to describe the intimate intensity of Citadel-compositions.

Fraser's musical output never stands still. He is on a spiritual journey through his time, never scared to let his mind wander. "Sojourn" brings Citadel as well as the listener to another fork in the road. The movements on this tape guide us slowly through a year that is filled with contrasts – light and darkness, warmth and frost, uncertainty and comfort, departure and arrival, yearning and delivery. We learn that we are all torn. We see the spirit that connects us all.

Citadel, in the live performance captured on this tape, stretches out into its own brand of neo-folk sound. Fraser allows us to walk a few miles in his shoes. We have permission to come closer, listen, feel and hope – together. Amusements Banales is proud to be part of the journey.

The artwork for the release was created by our dear friend Myles Bartel.

Also still fresh:

ABR002A & ABR002B – Wind Rose & Sean Caulfield "Lamentations" – C60 Cobalt Cassette Tape in 2 different versions.

After almost 2 years in the making, Amusements Banales is pleased to announce the release of this work by Edmonton-based sound and visual artist Gary James Joynes, working under his Wind Rose moniker for this piece. Joynes, who also records as Clinker, took the Edmonton Sound Art & Noise Scene by storm when he first brought Wind Rose to the local stages. Armed with a Minimoog, a Frostwave and an analog delay unit he wreaks blissful havoc on his audience.

"Lamentations" was recorded by the artist during a time of loss and grief after the death of his father. The four pieces on the tape represent a personal  journey. A journey through dark days, a path through pain and darkness to a place of acceptance, reinterpretation and translation.

All of the four pieces on this tape are extremely dense, heavy, churning, clanging, rattling and beautifully crafted pulses and drones. Everything seems to be coming to a grinding halt before it stumbles onward to the light at the end of the tunnel.  A maelstrom that will suck you in and spit you out at the end of side B  – changed and cleansed.

Renowned print artist Sean Caulfield listened to the material and, based on the experience, created a beautiful Mezzotint-Print to go along with the release in a special art edition limited to 100 pieces. The budget version layout features the same sounds wrapped in a j-card that shows a modified version of the original Mezzotint.

I also still have very few copies of the first release on the label - Damno Te's "Verkuemmern" C10 Tape

A dense mixture of samples, drumrolls, grating white static & swirling, layered old school laser noises...
