I'd say dead stock discount prices hardly reflect what new CD's are generally worth. I don't have much of "dead stock", because I don't run label in attempt to move whole inventory over short period of time, but can have items in stock for 10 years without seeing much problem with it. Even if it sells 1 copy every 3 years, hah!
That is certainly gamble, if thinking "I'll get this cheaper later".
With some releases it may be useless to pay 20,- now when you get it 5 euro quite soon, but some releases have pressing size estimated to reflect real demand. Meaning, theoretically all new copies will be sold at regular retail price and when release is sold out, it depends pure on "market" whether it becomes sought after high priced item or regular 2nd hand item sold for fraction of the original value.
Overall CD price appears to be 10-16 euro range in European industrial labels. It mostly depends on country, it's tax levels and level of economy anyways. Finnish postage rates keep rising. I think next in about 1 month? Minor corrections, what will not affect prices to my customers (3 euro flat rate, any amount of CD's anywhere in world!), but always cumulating into my own bills..
