The A Selection Of Drones Past: Singles 1993-2000 2CD compilation (http://www.discogs.com/Various-A-Selection-Of-Drones-Past-Singles-1993-2000/release/827093) of various 7"s on Drone Records is a great compilation with some interesting takes on the genre.

Few times been intending to start topic about DRONE RECORDS and at some point I was quite sure I did... But didn't come up in search. This label's 7" is series is a classic. I have slight temptation to start collecting them all, but with... c. 100 x 7", it seems like task beyond my ability... I got lucky guess I could possibly have 1/3 or even half already and many of them are excellent.
While it's always gamble does drone music work in short 7" playtime, most often I have concluded that it does. I'm not sure is it that bands actually took good care of composing songs for that series or is label boss unusually careful (despite magnitude of series).

I think a lot of the Drone Records work because they are pieces created for the 7" format - they are 6 - 7 minute pieces ... unlike (for example) Lull 7" singles which were just extracts from longer pieces. It always irks me when an interesting drone work fades out on a 7". I am sure there are other examples besides Lull ... but their Aquese singles from the 1990's just sprang to mind.
I always regret not joining the club and collecting all the Drone Records, but I (too) reckon I have about a third of them. Some second editions can be picked up rather cheaply.
Favourites? Para Noise Terminal, Ultra United, Ea, S*Core ... dammit! they're all favourites.

Although the CD is a good idea I have held back from buying because I think the idea was for vinyl project ....

A good series i think reflecting the intrest of the label i suppose and fairly diverse from very new projects to the more long running ones and also a very international label groups from a lot of differnt countries. My favorite is maybe the Life Garden 7" but there are still some i have never heard that i would like to hear like Mandible Chatter, Chaos As Shelter etc. Entrelacs 7" and Lunar Abyss Deus Organum 7" are great also !

Gorgoroth

In meditarivm 7" (now these tracks available on CD)

I think the format completely depends on the piece.  If it is a brilliant and moving 6 minute track, a 7" is a likely and easy format.  When you get into looooong 40+ minute tracks, you have to go to CD because interrupting the session can remove you from the moment.

HOGRA

I like the DRONE Records 2xCD.
A much better label than some gave them credit for...

Nice interview. I love the 7" format so i bought a fair amount of Drone releases over the years.. The Brume 7" is among my favorites.

Been listening lots of Drone Records sub-label 10"s. Subtantia Innominata label focus exclusively for 10" format, but one could say it is pretty much what Drone Records does, just not 7"s. Most of these have duration up to 25-30 minutes, making them long enough to really sink in, but never allow piece to become too much of "the same". When good 10" is in turntable, it is easy to give another spin instantly.

Many of the 10"s are done almost decade ago, but still available for cheap prices. Thanks to big pressings. Regular full color vinyl sleeves, editions usually 500 copies, 10" format. Nothing is bound to be rare - but that's kind of best thing with these. If release wasn't absolute future classic, it will be worth of money nevertheless.

Now playing BRUME "two characters". Yen Pox, (ad)vance(d), Hum, Bass Communion, all were decent listening that I most likely would have not bought as CD - but somehow this 10" series seems almost like could make decision to grab them all..

I appreciated

In Meditarivm ‎– Mare Internum

Same style like Archon Satani on In Selter, quiet and hypnotic 15 minutes in complete.

Decrepitude

I don't have many Drone releases but Thomas Dimuzio's Amid Zero Echo 2x10" is a favorite. Roughly ten minute drones on each side, very subdued but well crafted. Reminds me of Troum at their most barrenly meditative.
