Telecom Confusion.

3 tracks / 48+ min.

2026.

Anyone who has endured me droning on and on in this thread (and elsewhere) knows that Late Incapacitants has been kicking my ass. These two righteous Dudes, who might look like high school vice principals, just keep finding new / fascinating ways to make wonderful Noise.

Track 1 is a LOUD, dense, squealing, chaotic intro. I cannot grasp it on this maiden listen.

Then the very different track 2 gives me Oxen Man's Uneasiness track 2 vibes. (I suppose I contradict myself!?) But it's that vibe with a twist. A sort of distant, ghostly Wall with a repeating churn on top. Layers of eerie sounding Noise intertwine and battle. I can feel it all descending... towards ...something...

And then suddenly, track 3 crashes in. I sense that it could be a cross section of the previous 2 tracks. Voice is prominent. Telecom Confusion! That's what it sounds like! 😂 A thousand crossed wires. There's just so much layering and depth in recent Incapacitants, and yet they find a way to never overdo it. They keep a sense of mystery in there.

I know this is a shitty, incoherent review. But I know this is great. I know that I love it.

Ah fuckit. Here's a proper review from bloodpromise at rym:

"Telecom Confusion, the latest offering by legendary Japanoise duo Incapacitants, presents a tightly packed arrangement that evokes entangled cables and overloaded transmission systems. Across three distinct parts, pulsing signals and switches loop around a descending layer of gurgling bleeps, while bursts of static punctuate the surface, giving way to sharp, colorful glitches. Eventually, expanding layers of feedback swallow the composition whole.

Swirling, saturated streams of sound stack in close intervals. Subtle shifts in texture and intensity cause signals to blur. The transmission becomes unstable.

As the album progresses, this sustained build leads to a chaotic collision of frequencies. The distortion intensifies, pushing the sound toward overload, where any semblance of structure begins to disintegrate. By its final stages, the piece collapses into a colorful, cacophonous mass of volatile, psychedelic interference."

My biggest takeaway from this first listen is the very gradual arc that appears over the 48min. The tracks are distinct, but there are very subtle changes happening at all times. It's sneaky as fuck! And it will take several spins to fully grasp / appreciate.

Edit: I played it twice! The 3 tracks that initially seemed so distinct from each other now seem much more closely related. (I mean, they are called parts 1-2-3, FFS!) 😂
