Interested to hear about weird and wonderful audio artifacts nestled in your collections.  Strictly no knowing artists doing it for irony or creativity - I'm talking about bizarre, incongruous things pressed onto wax or dubbed onto tape for the purposes of education/entertainment/promotion/advertisement.  The kind that you probably found sitting around in a thrift/charity shop and simply had to have despite knowing how infrequently you'd ever listen to it.  Youtube links to audio and/or pics would be great but even just good stories will do.

A few of mine:

Hobby Pharm Apothecaries of Jazz vol.1 (Cassette) Recording of a jazz band made up entirely of pharmacists to celebrate 25 years of over the counter Panadol (I'm pretty sure this was released by Panadol themselves). Totally bollocks dixie/swing jazz but packaged in a dazzling silver cassette, case and cover presumably designed to look like a packet of pain killers.

Michael Aspel - Sounds of the Sea (Flexi Disc) Nice looking flexi disc detailing a 'journey in sound' across the seven seas.  Has loads of BBC sound recordings of sea life and boats while national treasure Michael Aspel narrates.  Brilliantly, this was produced by British blackcurrant cordial manufacturer Ribena and could originally be obtained by sending a certain number of foil Ribena lids away with 50p to a PO Box.

What Goes Up Must Come Down! The High Flying Humour of David Gunson
(Cassette/LP) Live recording of a standup comedy set by after dinner speaker and former air traffic controller David Gunson.  I had the cassette version and couldn't get through it all but a lot of the stand up material was based around quite specific aviation references iirc.

Memories of Ireland presented by Guinness (Flexi Disc) Something of a whistlestop tour of the Emerald Isle narrated by Val Joyce. Interestingly enough a lot of Guinness based tourist attractions are recommended which leads to a great bit inside a pub where a well spoken man says 'Guinness, please' and you hear the sound of a pint being poured.

Anglican Adams Preaching Society of Nigeria Led by Rev. Evang. J. D. Okpidama (LP) Not much going on here - it's just a sermon in a nigerian church - but the cover was so amazing it was a must.  Has some good bass guitar at certain moments.  Made in Nigeria and released via Sammy Records.

John Jacobs - Dr Golf (LP) Exhaustive golf tutorial by former Ryder Cup star.  Side 2 is the best because it ends with some ladies asking him about golf and then him being letchy 1970s cunt.

Come Aboard! QE2 (LP)  Description on discogs does it more justice than I can - 'Released to coincide with the Launch of the Cunard Line's Queen Elizabeth 2 cruise liner in 1969. Album consists of two sides of spoken word and sound effects mixed with various bands and acts that played on the opening tour of the QE2. Sold only on the QE2 and at various ports of call. There is no track listing, only names and music styles of the bands.'  Camp as all fuck.

Will post more if/as I remember.

That's hilarious. I was going to list the exact same record. The cover—and flip-open interior images—are just as interesting as the recording. I would need to look which company again. It was released by a drug manufacturer.

From the Gatefold "promotional materials for Vibramycin hyalite (doxycycline). Ad for Pfizerpen penicillin on the back cover."

Shikata ga nai.

Duncan

wow, great addition.  Cracking South African accent on the Doc as well.

I am sampling the fuck out of that.
Yeah, i've done it using the actual vinyl. Gets some good cutups as you quickly move the needle.

ha yes :D i'll dig it out and post soon. Also got a 12" of literal industrial music - a barbershop quartet singing a theme song for a steel girder manufacturer

edit: i'll just leave this here https://456aeblitpipe2makingnewcontext.bandcamp.com/album/--2

I want that Sound Effects LP "Beware of Dog"!

While not all that original, I think mixing it with the crying babies would make an interesting listening experience.

The repetitive nature of the teaching instructions is one thing, but when the parakeet actually talks at the end it's borderline terrifying.

Satanic Xerox 7" as requested. I thought I ripped it back in the day but possibly never got round to it, if not I will soon. :) But it's just classical music on one side and some guy talking about photocopiers on the other.

SiClark

Ahhhh ok! A flexi about xerox, I thought it was some kind of flexi that was magically reproduced with a photocopier. I know that would be impossible but that's what I thought you had.

I have this swedish record with Hypnotic suggestions:
Lars-Eric Uneståhl ‎– Hypnos  https://www.discogs.com/Lars-Eric-Unest%C3%A5hl-Hypnos/release/1111973
- "Hypnosis Induction With General Suggestions About Calm, Relaxation And Rest" - "Smoking cessation" - "Sleep Suggestions" -
Of course, every time I try to play it I fall asleep...

theworldisawarfilm

The only thing in my collection aside from a couple of cassettes on hypnosis is this National Geographic flexi of Humpback whale sounds.
