I've been revisting the Butthole Surfers early works lately and I'm curious to know if anyone else likes them. Their early more experimental/punk approach was quite unique and at times kind of noisy.

Great group, and I would be surprised if there were not others here that loved them.  I still remember telling people in middle school that I found a group named Butthole Surfers and getting some good laughs out of it.  While their approach has been overdone, commercialized and bastardized by so many after them, there is still something about hearing one of their records that comes off as unnerving to me.  Can't put on a song like "22 Going on 23" without sending a few shivers down my spine.

One of the best bands ever, to me they´re "beyond punk"... I was just listening to Propergol´s "Renegade" reissue CD I got recently, and on the title track there´s this massive straight driving distorted beat, and just thought "hey... Butthole Surfers".

I like their stuff all the way up to the poppy but great Electriclarryland. My first introduction to the band was a friend's friend playing Locust Abortion Technician when I was in high school. It immediately sounded just awesome to my metalhead teenage brain. My musical tastes started branching out in high school and I was constantly looking for new stuff even if what I listened to was still 95% thrash/death metal. Around that time I discovered Dead Kennedys, Einstürzende Neubauten, Skinny Puppy and many others, and Butthole Surfers was another great discovery that for sure contributed to the development of my musical taste.

Yeah that's kind of how they go for me too, up to Electriclarryland and never followed much of them after since. I also first discovered them with the Locust Abortion Technician album, which is a weird one full of experimental mayhem. They definitely are a band that can send me into a sort of mad laughter at times with their insane lyrics and funny song titles. Waiting For Jimmy To Kick from the Rembrandt Pussyhorse album gets me laughing uncontrollably and then somewhere towards the end the song derails into this nihilistic chaos, haha. It's cool to see others comment about them on here too, cause I often wonder if they've kind of become forgotten in some ways, at least their early more chaotic stuff. Most people I've known in my life seem to only associate them with their song "pepper" and that's the extent of it unfortunately.

They´re finally about to release "After the Astronaut" soon though, which is cool.

Not sure what's in the Texan water but it always seemed a hotbed for punks genre-crossing into fields of psych and noise experimentation. Never was a huge Butthole Surfers' fan though, but more into the sounds of the likes of Cherubs, Scratch Acid, Ed Hall - and most of all the amazing Pain Teens. They had it all; tape loops, sludgy rhythms, Scott Ayers noisy guitar treatments, lyrics about control, domination, kiddie torture, serial killers, and similarly morose topics. "Stimulation Festival" is a killer album!
There was a Surfers' connection as PT were signed to King Coffey's label, Trance Syndicate.

I bought this compilation EP recently, and it sounds very good, and raw enough.
After the first 3min, the sounds changes a bit more "compressed and distorted" (in a good way)
