Quote from: MALAISE57 on March 09, 2024, 04:23:02 PMI find behringer's super fuzz to make my recordings too harsh, especially on the actually "fuzz" settings (both of them.) But i am looking for a softer fuzz, since the super fuzz is a bit too super for me.

You should try some Fuzz Face-variants or maybe Ibanez FZ7? FZ7 is my secret weapon when distorting contact mic signals. It has an good EQ and the damage switch is simply ingenious.

Will look in to that. Another Fuzz i have been looking at is Boss FZ 5, Does anyone have experiences with that pedal? I heard thats also a pedal that isnt that rough for fuzz.

Well i don't know anything else about that FZ5 besides that it is digital. I'd be cautious concerning digital fuzzes because fuzzes essentially belong into analog realm with their "flaws" and inconsistancies.

Seconded! The filter is also great. It really goes from about gazillion hertz to around zero hertz, endless fun!

EQD/Boris Hizumitas been a go-to lately, tone has a gnarly sweep from screech to sludge.

I don't mess with digital fuzzes unless I'm looking for actual digital artifacts (rare).

That Hizumitas is interesting, but i'm bit partial to Big Muff-style of fuzzes / distortions. That severe mid scoop is an bitch to tame!

Truth! I use a dinky little Tube Screamer clone to flatten it out sometimes, otherwise just some EQ. I'm a nut for Boris so my biases are at play as well.

Lately i've been using this Zvex Mastrotron / Wooly Mammoth clone in C15 context and it has been really nice! The pinch (gate) and input controls really offer plethora of different textures and shades of degradation. When driven into Ibanez FZ7, that is also gated in some settings, the sound can be really pushed into rhytmic and punchy territory.

Ft Elettronica Strike Fuzz, hand made pedal made in Italy. The results can be unexpected as well as quite frustrating. Compared to other fuzz pedals - only those few I previously owned - it tends to loose some power, so I usually put a boost after it to regain all the details. Have a look at it. It's nice, solid, well buil, and the price is very affordable.

Does anyone have experience with the Electro Harmonix Graphic Fuzz? I'm considering picking up one of the newer models.

From the little I experienced and played with it, it's an EQ pedal with a fuzz, which can be great, but also not that obvious when it comes to the result. The fuzz is not that outstanding, compared to other EHX fuzz pedals that have been made and which are way less expensive. In my opinion it's not really necessary. Grab a good fuzz pedal among the ones named before and use an EQ pedal before or after it, the result will probably be better.

Recently I acquired a Death by Audio Evil Filter fuzz pedal, which should be a synonym of total destruction. The fuzz is gnarly, and the filter allows to explore some nice texture. High-pass, bypass and lowpass filters also become useful. To keep in mind that you can use both fuzz and filter at the same time or separately. It also has an expression pedal input which can receive a CV signal from a synthetiser. I haven't come to any insane results for now, but I'm sure within the right hands it can become useful. On the other side, it's fun to play with an expression pedal. Again, it's about how you use. Joke or not, though, I think that a noise suppressor pedal, or a noise reducer, wouldn't be that bad: the pedal is LOUD.

Also, Electro-Harmonix "recently" put out some new fuzz pedals, two of which very compact: Bender Royale Fuzz Orange and Bender Royale Fuzz Black. The "blend" knob on both is a true blessing from this company. Any experiences with it? Also, last to come out was the Big Muff PI 2 Fuzz.
