(not to mention the only ones that I can turn up LOUD) are in my car.

I can relate to this, and it actually makes me curious, more along the lines of HOW do you listen to noise than WHAT you listen to it with, but how many out there actually CAN blast noise on their speakers?

I lived in apartments for many years, and needless to say, blasting noise full force would have quickly led to an eviction notice on my door, if not jail at worst. Nowadays, I own a home, but there are still limitations in how loud you can be. Sure, I could convert a room in the basement, I suppose, to almost the equivalent of a recording studio where no sound would leak out, but there's far better uses of my time and money at the moment.

Yeah, I could do it in my car too, but I don't need to drive anywhere for long trips usually, and anyway, I prefer to actively listen to noise with my full attention, so I don't really like putting it on there.

I have a pretty good setup for headphones, so I don't usually mind (I splurged a bit on my equipment, but not insanely so). But I do sometimes wonder how much I'm missing out by listening exclusively to most things by headphones.

What's really sad is that most of the noise shows in my area are hosted by a guy who only books events at places where volume control is required...  So even live noise is capped for me!

Thankfully my drive is VERY repetitive, so I do have the luxury of being able to focus on the noise more than others might be able to when driving (and, perhaps, more than I should be for the sake of safety).

I rarely do long drives, but there was one time where I knew I could do all 10 of the Merzphysics discs...and I did! (Alone, of course.) 😂

Have to say it kinda breaks my heart to see someone collecting noise and their listening gear is level boombox. You are kind of missing a lot of your listening experience. It does not need to be super hi-fi end but as Mikko said, a decent set of amp, speakers, tape deck etc is mandatory in my opinion. I was guilty of this myself for so long, listening with old stereo set speakers until I kind of "came to my senses".

Likewise! Started to consider how much cash has been sunk into my collection but am still listening to it on a piece of shit consumer electronics mini system.

Not to mention how difficult it's becoming to find a proper player to play anything on anymore! I second that statement, cause I dump so much into my own collection that allocating funds for a proper set up... simply gets put on the back burner and never happens.

Ah, that was badly worded - meant I upgraded to a decent setup around a decade ago after realising the amount I'd spent on music over the years but was still playing it on inferior equipment.

I listen to so much stuff on headphones these days. I can't be to noisy where I live or they'll be a noise complaint, haha. I'd like to get a really nice set up in the near future, but I need the space or room designated just for it.

Don't you hate when there is a new release and you cannot find any details about it? Samples. Duration. You feel inadequate. You start to doubt your abilities on the internet. "What the fuck am I doing wrong?"

Duration question is interesting! For me it applies on tapes. If I am going to spend, lets say 10-15,- for tape, I would like to know is it C-10, C-30 or C-60. No matter how good C-10, I would be probably considering do I NEED 15 euro C-10...

But, LP, CD... I don't think there has ever been moment when I was disappointed that album was too short? In recent times there has been a lot of good 30 minute noise albums. It is great for me. Even if format would allow 70+, I do not think it is necessary to fill in maximum amount of duration, just good album.

It is interesting question, is someone thinking if seeing 25 min or 30 min noise CD, that this is not enough for price of full length!

I am a fan of "stretched out" Noise works. Perhaps my bathtub listening is a factor? My all-time favs are generally long-ass discs. It's just how I'm wired. HNW Is My Shit, and duration matters in that.

But!...I have recently learned to appreciate short albums, thanks to Sissy, Mildred Pierce, etc.

Still, my Boar question is out of general curiosity. There it is at S+W, and I cannot find any details, possibly due to my lack of search skills.

It's not a price thing! I paid $15 for a 7min Sissy. 😂

I think the same applies to noise as most music: length of an LP is long enough and rarely longer would be better, just longer. So for noise I think 30-40 minutes is great.

I love my 70-80min! The so-called Double Album rules, in my life. 😂

To each their own, of course.

In rock/pop, I adore The White Album, Exile On Main St, nearly everything by Lana Del Rey 😂, Haley Williams last one, Dylan's Time Out Of Mind, etc.

Of course there are many 40min that I adore, but for whatever reason, the great 75min are my favs.

And, I'm the same in Noise! Vomir's 75min walls, Killer Bug's 2CD, Sissy's Mechanical Abstraction, etc etc. (I could make a long list.)

Again, I have many 30-40min Noise albums, which I love.

But 75min is where my brain really thrives! I dunno why.
