MANIC / DEPRESSION tape - very good start. I recall first promo sent around being very much of "finnish pe" of the time. Delay vocals, feedback, metal junk... ehm. Well, what has changed then? Perhaps it's more towards the noise? The subtle difference is perhaps lack of up-front vocal humiliation, and more focus on coarse and rough harsh noises. You can still clearly sense that it's not from "artsy" side, but diseased, malfunctions, observations of bricks in the face brutality. Tape has very good moments, but I feel the balance of sounds.. hmm, lets say volume vise, is slightly out of focus? Vocal duties what I sense being there, are buried in perhaps not-so-good effects. Considering how good the natural strength of vocals of this guy actually is, it is a shame, that he wouldn't just plug in mic to 4-track and start ranting. That some pedals take all the bite & wrath what could be there. Nevertheless, I feel that it's very nice official debute tape, but I hope he'll keep on recording & playing live sometime before accepting any album deals for example.
COMA DETOX tape = good. Rough noise. See something said about the other C.D. tape released on Nil By Mouth. Not much to add, expect this one has less vocals. Has the kind of "mother savage" wibe what is actually pretty rare in scene nowadays. I will glorify that immediately. No wall of noise, not exactly pure PE. More loud and wild harsh noise with violent and sexual overtones!
