Very rarely have any desire to attend shows or events.  I'm envious of this, though.

I'm not feeling a ton of these newer power violence bands save for Vile Intent, Subsist and a few others, nor am I particularly interested in reunions but seeing all this renewed interest has had me blasting the 90's classics all week. I rolled through Suppression, Crossed Out, classic MITB,

Seeing how pv has been embraced as a "legit" genre has me remembering how much this stuff was derided in the 90's, got me chuckling just a tad. You couldn't walk down the street reading a copy of Monkeybite #2 without someone calling you an asshole.....

i went to it. first night i only went to see gasp, specifically, and they more than delivered. never thought I'd ever get to see them. concussive is probably the only newer pv band that i've liked for around two years now; they play really solid no comment worship but don't seem a carbon copy. all the bands the second night were great, and bastard noise played a really solid noise set (thought they might do the rehashed mitb stuff, which i'm not really a fan of personally). infest has been excellent every time i've seen them play, and are 100% worth seeing if you have the opportunity.

I always get the impression that power-violence continues to be the creepy uncle of the HC family.  I think that's more a regional perspective, though.  In Minneapolis, PV might as well been neo-nazi music.  Out west, it's part of their normal musical vernacular.  Out east, you have both reactions in extreme.  In general, it seems like it still gets shit on now, though.  I've talked about it many times.  I'm sure we have here in this thread somewhere.  Power-violence was such a strange overall phenomena in the 90s.  While not closeted like some noise and noisecore, selling 1000s of copies of records and zines from the most infamous labels, practically having its own zines in Monkeybite and Short Fast & Loud, it was still sort of on the fringes.  It somehow managed to remain "outsider" music within HC.  The unashamed tension and violence certainly didn't hurt it remaining out there.  California is, or at least was, a truly strange place.

Because of this little fest, yesterday, I made a short list of recent PV bands I like.  There are more than I realized.  I hadn't head of Subsist.  Is this them?  https://absurdexposition.bandcamp.com/album/subsist

People seem like to both tapes but I tend to shy away from our first one and just rep the second, which is one of my favourite recordings that I have been a part of: https://absurdexposition.bandcamp.com/album/crisis

I've always leaned towards having a stricter definition of pv for bands that came after the initial heyday, almost in a way that would by definition betray the "original" groups in retrospective, and would say that 99% of bands claiming the "pv" tag aren't pv at all (which is not an uncommon argument).

Thanks for the link.  Looking forward to listening to these.

I often catch flak for being too liberal with krautrock, and I considerate myself somewhat conservative.  I try not to get to the point of splitting hairs or pedantry, but I can be guilty of both.  One thing I've noticed about PV that I understand, but that also makes me cringe a bit, is if one of the originals labels a band power-violence, then everyone takes that as gospel.  I almost always agree, but it is the status aspect that is a little ugly.

I like that you bring up Krautrock because the link between the two of them is huge - not in sound obviously but the dichotomy of musical variables that converge in a certain place, time and attitude are huge. Like how do you go from Crossed Out and a few short years later you've got Drome Triler of Puzzle Zoo People dropping out of that same scene? I feel that getting turned on to that scene at a very young age really shaped everything I wound up getting into as a result of it once I opened my mind beyond the rigid dogma of the punk scene. Noise, free jazz, psychedelia, krautrock, prog, etc. I can connect the dots on almost anything I'm listening to back to some aspect of it.

Also I'm just a tad wary of these reunion shows after watching the botched abortion that was Siege earlier this year so forgive my catankerous ranting on that. There are super cool current bands out there - Sea of Shit, Iron Lung, Intensive Care.... maybe more? I'm out of the loop.....

The power-violence people were definitely some of the most progressive musical listeners and thinkers in the 90's HC world.  Eric Wood has always had a curious, listen to everything quality mind.  Punk and HC have almost always had a limiting, small-parametered perspective.  Couldn't listen to the closely related metal cousin etc.  Crossover was met with "no fucking way, assholes."  I'd be curious if the open-minded, curious element was still part of today's PV bands.  I sort of doubt it, but maybe it's inherent.

I compiled a list of recent PV bands for myself.  If I'm missing any, please let me know.

Waiting for my copy of the zine to come in the mail.

A bunch of bands on that list above are really just hc punk bands, I'd say (like Coke Bust, Purity Control)

And for what it's worth, the vocalist in Scum Human was also in Subsist.

For a couple of years I ran a hardcore label that dabbled in black metal and even had one industrial release (Psywarfare) and a synthpop EP. highly influenced by the Holy Terror side of metallic hardcore. Most releases are free to download here, and if it's not and you'd like to download it, please let me know. While the label is no longer active it'd be good if people still enjoyed the music cos there was some quality shit on there (I can say that cos none of the releases were my own bands!)

I'd highly recommend the Esoteric Youth demo for some nasty raw black/hardcore.

It's pretty cool but it could have used an editor. Especially at the price it's going for.

At any rate, Wood literally talks about harsh noise and PE for 10+ pages. Referencing Bizarre Uproar, Con-Dom, Deathpile, Grunt, Macronympha, Striations. The contributions from Barnes and Kenyon were nice, too.

A ripping, thundering bassist from Loud and Boisterous.  another great track is from Scoundrel.  The soundtrack to Urban Styles: Graffiti In NYHC book.

Saw this trio last night at a grind show - bass / drums / vocals and they were great. Bought their LP and new tape as well. Was really solid. GREAT live band.

Just got turned on to this INCREDIBLE Spanish band called Barcelona - wonderful mix of United Mutation, Italian hardcore and general fucking out there weirdness. Artwork is top notch. LOVING this band. I have the new LP that is even more raw and blown out.
