The criteria being:

Was it good or bad?

(But seriously though: Do you like every HNW that you heard?)

Edit: Groesk and Cementimental (the best handle ever!) gave better answers. Sue me.

I accept that.

I'm presently enjoying (enduring?) CD1 of Legion Of Andromeda / Vomir 3CD split. I suppose this does not strictly qualify as HNW - or does it?:

A constant, unchanging hatebeat, a short vocal burst repeated over and over in time with the hatebeat, an unchanging background...an unchanging everything!

CD1 sees 4x18min+ tracks - only the words and the way the short vocal burst dances around the beat will change, from track to track. I found the 4 choices rather interesting, and varied. But perhaps my perception of this is magnified due to the relentlessly unchanging other aspects? The 4 different vocal burst created a sense of progression/journey. ie The 73min CD "went somewhere".  (I know I'm not making sense now.) 😂

After about the 200th repeat of the vocal, it becomes strangely hypnotic. This shit pummels your brain, even at moderate volumes.

I admire the courage that it takes to execute such a vision. This is wonderful!!

Edit: I love the review here:

Edit again: Shockingly, on track 4, I sometimes detect a slight breakdown in the vocal - maybe this was a longer loop - this very tiny detail creates much tension. The "singer" is getting tired? Brilliant!!

Not HNW, but https://www.discogs.com/Kylie-Minoise-You-Suffer/release/1051948

In honour of this thread I purchased Kylie Minoise - Empire Of Puke! yesterday, even though I believe that he is more PE than HNW. I hate to admit that I knew nothing about him until this thread. (I cannot even find a review anywhere for this purchase. I'm sure that it will be lovely.)

As I hear Empire Of Puke for the second time, I will say:

Probably 50-75% of this is "HNW-like".

This is a wonderful album, with great energy and flow.

Imho, based on my research, Kylie Minoise is under-appreciated / overlooked.

Well this seems to be the best thread to report my current listen as I type:

Vomir - Recouvre La Merde.

3 tracks - 17/21/35min.

Recorded live in 2013.

I wish I could unsee some of the imagery in the CD booklet. (Think album title.)

Vomir is my man! The initial post in this thread, from 13 years ago, asks if we are bored yet of HNW. I never tire of a well constructed wall. They are all different textures / colours / architecture to my ears.

Wall 1 here seems coarse, with a deep underlying rumble.

Oh - this plays as one 73min track. You note the changes over the 3 parts.

Ie The deep rumble goes away for part 2, but the surface noise seems to remain as it was.

This has a more porous / spatial feel than many other Vomirs that I have. It's not as deeply layered. Dare I say that part 2 is...sparse?

Whoa! Part 3 jolts me from a slumber. A deep underlayer suddenly takes over. Much more powerful that the lurkings beneath in part 1. The surface layer seems constant, but in part 3 it is nearly drowned out.

So part 2 was almost a reprieve of sorts - bookended by more sinister walls. The surface layer remains the anchor throughout, while the presence / absence / amplification of the deeper layer is considered.

I fucking love it.

On my first redo of the above, at high volume*, I'm convinced that this is now my fav Vomir CD. 😂 The 3 shifts present a very interesting study. Is it the same wall, with additions / subtractions? (I think so.) Is it 3 different walls? (Possibly.) Does it matter? How is a particular wall defined? When does it become another wall?

Part 3 is especially powerful. (And loud!)

*With Vomir (and some other HNW people) I don't worry so much about neighbourly disturbances. "Dude, I needed to vacuum. And dry the laundry. And blow-dry my hair. And make a smoothie. At the same time."

been thinking of trying out some harsh noise wall. i'm still building up the courage and dedication to sit through all of Clausteration by Vomir. bit over 5 hours is daunting, but i'll do the recommended dose of one track at a time. any artists beside Vomir that get a stamp of approval? music databases only go so far for this type of stuff.

Dude! This thread! Especially The Rita recommendations! 😂

Goddammit why must Claustration be CDRs? I don't do CDRs.

There's a lot of silly lists out there, but if you have 4 days to spare, I think this is great:

Maybe higher dynamic range and easier/cheaper/more feasible to do than fetish formats.

thanks man, i'll be sure to check a few of the tracks out at least.
just got through the first track and it's kinda clicking. the final 1/3rd of Calusteration I is really cool in how it subtly builds up to the last 5 minutes.

Balor/SS1535

Wallmart is still my favorite of the subgenre---mostly because the live shows are consistently great!
