It's funny reading the comments sections under her articles because they are scathing. And that's left, centre and right. Everyone hates her but I have a feeling the left hates her the most as she's one of the top persons for giving them a bad name.

I've probably posted this clip before but it's worth watching again. I thank the gods for preserving the moment where the self made tory poof that is David Starkey tore her to ribbons in front of a live audience. Little Miss full of her own importance and Piss didn't like it and tried the water works but the water workers went on strike in solidarity with all things decent and denied her a way out. She asked for that one.

From the anxious body language of the moderator sitting behind her to how Starkey sips from his wine glass whilst psyching himself up for the final blow to the woman in the audience shooting Penny down in flames with a "you started it" followed by Penny realising no one's buying her bullshit but for the sake of all things bullshit she keeps the act going anyway and failing miserably.

I'm firmly in the camp of disliking Laurie Penny for reasons relating to how poorly she actually represents the causes she makes money from writing about.  In my view she is completely indistinguishable from your average Hopkins, Clarkson or Yiannopoulous save for the 'left wing' leanings.  Complete and utter self obsessed, opportunistic shill who hijacks real, complicated topics into reduced soundbites toward a personal quest to not have to work at a supermarket.  It is so clear that her being a well known writer is more important than the people who actually have to fucking suffer from the injustices she'll be pretending to give a fuck about for that week's deadline.  

Nothing I've ever read of hers has had any more depth than a teenagers self obsessed blog yet she is often hailed as an important and controversial voice in media.  Read her supposedly damning and incisive analysis on Milo Yiannopoulous and tell me if you can find anything above anecdotal self reference as the basis for her points.  Pathetic.  The fact she is able to sustain a career and minor celebrity status as professional mouth piece for left wing/feminist viewpoints off the back of these efforts is offensive and annoying for those of us who hate genuine injustice as much as we do weak, careerist, floppy narcissists so yeah, there is a more 'left' view point on it if you want it.

The starkey vid is a laugh for some basic schadenfraude/justice but he is in a similar boat in terms of being a professional opinion haver.  The lot of them and so many more deserve a calm yet irreversible, critical arse kicking.

Seems the worst vitriol against her comes from other lefties which is perfectly understandable as she embodies the cliché hypocritical champagne socialist as if she was the prototype. Although definitely not a lefty myself I sympathise with any serious person of that persuasion who has to witness the likes of her shitting all over the ideology.

Starkey is a horribly arrogant man but he is at least capable within his field as a historian. Her ticket into the media opinion glitterati is having the right school tie. It certainly wasn't her ability.

The use of MOAB was to destroy the tunnels ISIS was using in the mountains. I'm guessing it did that; I was hoping for much higher quality video of the aftermath.

Death toll is up to 94.  I'm curious about the damage done to the tunnels & caves...

Well, I see this fitting perfectly into the long line of 'art commentary' of the moral majority which shows itself to be out of step and at least 1-2 decades behind the 'moral compass' of Europe when similar matters courted controversy overseas long ago. By this I am referring to the Melbourne hammer attack on Serrano's Piss Christ, and to a lesser extent the more recent manufactured controversy of Bill Henson's 'paedo' photography (including the former PM digging the boot in!).

But apart from the ludicrous public comments about 'art' in the article, the controversy is hardly surprising.  I am just hoping that the organisers of Dark MOFO stick to their guns and don't bow to pressure to cancel the show.  Personally I don't eat meat by choice, but that decision in no way detracts from my interest in seeing this work and more broadly appreciating Hermann Nitsch's work, artistic approach and the means of creating it.

As a back story, I still vividly remember seeing a video of Nitsch's live actions in the National Gallery of Victoria when I was about 10 years old, and had absolutely no idea of what I was seeing or what the fuck was going on (...I perhaps thought it was a satanic ritual at the time?!). But experiencing that at a young age has absolutely stuck with me over the years and has influenced a great deal of my appreciation of 'difficult' music and art.  So yes - I am beyond looking forward to seeing this performance 'in the flesh' (...providing it does not get cancelled...).

Good point. We can be atrocious philistines without a doubt, and the suggestion that he "just paint something like everyone else" or attach brushes to cows legs are just fucking smirkable.

Mind you, I've got a philistine streak. A lot of what passes for "art" these days I'd like to take a hammer to myself. The destruction of art is as important as art itself in a lot of ways.

From what I've seen of this piece/ritual of Nitsch's, it looks interesting and exciting on edited video but I imagine there'd be a lot of boring standing around waiting for your cue involved. Could be wrong, though. If people take part and get a thrill out of it, best of luck to them. Wonder who gets the trophies like the skull and the pelt?
