Noise with drums?

I don't know if all qualify as "noise"? It's up to debate which qualifies as noise. I think opening message suggest more harsh and unmusical thing. Not bands where recording technic just makes their music sound noisier? Not improv/free jazz type of stuff which almost always includes percussion of some sort.
I recall Vegas Martyrs and Airconditioning being good, but more of... hmm.. what should it be called? Perhaps not noiserock yet?

My personal favorite in drum/band instrument noise is Gerogerigegege "Senzuri power up". It's not "abstract" harsh noise like Macronympha, but really brutal. It is often steady beat of rock'n'roll drums, and then just fierce noise over it. With amazingly loud sound. It's not their "noisecore" recordings. Nor the concept anti-art.

I used to have a tape called, i think, KIBBUTZ (wrapped in tissue-paper with red stains, like someone had had a nosebleed...) that was improvised noise with free form type drumming. Back when it was a duo. From what i recall Merzbow did a few more recordings like this in the 80s. Pretty cool, but not as intese as later stuff.
And going by what´s said above, there´s lots of "noisy" free jazz stuff with drums, but mostly not using electronics for rest of sound but rather usual instruments, and often with more "musical" passages as well. These days this is something i personally enjoy very much, like the stuff on FMP, Brötzmann etc. "machine gun" is a classic, it even has TWO drummers!

Jesper Forselius (BLOD) did a solo recording under the name Shrine (private CDR in a numbered ed of 21 cps) in 1999, which was a 20+min track of solo drumming, basically a non stop barrage of fast drum solo mayhem. I always thought of that one as harsh noise using only a standard drum set as instrument. It is rather heavy listening, but your mileage may vary depending on how much interest you have in "clean" drum sounds.

I have asked Jesper if he would be interested in seeing this reissued somehow, but no reply.

Some 90s Hijokaidan specifically the Fourth Dimension 10" uses drums, but so distorted that you can't hear them as drums (or the gtrs and voice as anything other than a wall of noise) - possibly the band was playing a song of some kind but put everything through so many effects that it became great noise - I know of other noise musicians who have worked this way, you don't have to use just a table of effects pedals feeding back or a fucking laptop!

yes, incorporating "musically" played drums in unmusical & harsh settings; improv stuff is interesting and might be good but not what I'm looking for. but I appreciate the many recommendations, will look into them. especially the Japanese (gerogerigegege, hijokaidan, merzbow). it's always interesting when discernible beats/rhythms (of what oyu hear is a proper drum kit) struggle their way through a thick cascading wall of noise and shit; drums as the only (intelligible) musical element.

the drums I used on the PESTDEMON tape were recorded with a cell phone lying on a floor tom, edited via tape. sounded completely horrific. which is fun because the drum kit must be worth about 3500-4000 euro at least, two snares, a thousand cymbals etc. that recording Jesper did sounds interesting.

Sword Heaven is, at the moment, on hiatus.  Their drummer Aaron is living in India for a few years.  They are great.

The other guy made it sound like they were pretty much done, since he'll be gone for so long.  This really sucks ass; I've missed them both times they came here, once by only 45 minutes... :(

Quite a lot of Hijokaidan uses drums, from '79 on to at least 2006 - most of tthem live recordings. The assorted Antiknock sessions are favorite. One of the very few groups who've consistently pulled it off imo.

I recently saw Merzbow play with Balazs Pandi on drums, it was an amazing show. The drums really added a different flavour to it and they seemed to feed off of eachother really well.

Incidentally Balazs is also guesting on my next album for Ohm Resistance.
