Favourite Prurient release?

Picked up the LP and streamed it for the first time in a while this morning. God, I forgot how hard the vocals went. Amazing performance on this one. I hope they have more reissues planned from this sort of era.

Another random (and perhaps slightly silly) thought:

If this was, magically, instead of Prurient, GO's next album, in maybe 2027, I'd be fucking thrilled.

I had found out about the split they released right after Carte Blanche and thought to myself exacltly this. It's interesting to notice how a GO+P collaboration, even as it might seem on the first glance, isn't much of an obvious choice. Both are quite different in atmosphere handling, song structuring, and general aesthetics. GO is much more homogeneously thematically-oriented, and "clynical" in the approach they have for repetitive Industrial noise. Not to sound like a "gatekeeper", but I view them in the strong tradition of original Industrial music from the '70s - a truly follower of Throbbing Gristle and such, but within their own framework and less of a broad subject matter representation. Prurient, on the other hand is so overly versatile that it's hard to pinpoint his music into only one of a genre or subgenre - seems as if the domain of it is elastic enough to encompass anything, aesthetically and musically.

Went back to this last night. I feel like this record massively benefits from me being now more steeped in GO and the Tesco sound it is referencing. The only other Prurient stuff I've heard that really sounds like this is Carte Blanche. At the time, I missed the variety of FNF but this feels like a very holistic statement piece and a satisfying listen. It's only a little shorter than Death Zones but I prefer listening to this all the way through.

I may have said this in the GO thread, but the next time I do Death Zones, it will be in one sitting, and CD2 will go first. I have a strange feeling that this will work better for me. It even makes more sense historically, with Agent Orange doing his Jan 6 stupidity at the start of CD1. My way will see the harshest track mid album (end CD2), followed by said speech.

Sorry...I know that is GO related, not Prurient.

But, perhaps as we are hinting, Casablanca Flamethrower and Death Zones feel like sister albums.

I remember Dom saying that the first techno tape he got had a reversible cover, one side being a FemDom and the other a more "traditional" BDSM scene. It all comes together...

I also found the Baron's Chamber on my shelves and have no idea how this one sounds but there's a nice recommendation at the beginning of this topic which mad me curious.

Just listened to this and I like most of the sounds but overall it sounds really flat and compressed, which takes away some of the enjoyment for me.

Perhaps I should revisit the demos featured on the B side of the Bermuda Drain cassette. This new tape reminds me of those demos but it's been a few years.

I vaguely remember reading or hearing that Fernow had The Baron's Chamber deliberately mixed and mastered with a heavy focus on treble, so as to ensure that the album always sounded like it was on the verge of a cathartic explosion which never came.
The point being, IIRC, that the album was supposed to reflect insatiable perversion and lust, where each climax only led to the next, never offering real satisfaction, never leading to actual love and romance. Pleasure Ground was the more mature and substantial conclusion of those ideas, I think.

The Golden Chamber is one of his best, if not his best. That album is in severe need of a reissue on vinyl and CD.

Sounds like this could have been released as a more aggressive Vatican Shadow release. At least in my mind this new tape has similarities with Bermuda Drain but the sounds used are Vatican Shadow.

Yeah I completely agree. I enjoyed Death Zones a lot more once I actually started listening to them as separate CDs but I agree a reverse order would be better.

I finally got FNF on LP recently and can't stop spinning it. Truly the peak of the project for me. I think Dom was really cooking around this time on all fronts. Luxor Necropolitics is probably my favourite VS release and Ambient Black Magic is the best RSE for my money. I'm always interested in what he does and have enjoyed a lot of the doom electronics stuff but the stuff from the early-mid 2010s (maybe include 09 as that was Pleasure Ground) is so much more inspired to me.

This is precisely the reason why I didn't enjoy that album so much. Too much techno-ish, although Berkowitz was a quite interesting fella - not much musically arousing for me. You listen to it and has the sudden urge to blast some History of Aids.
