Had not heard about it before. OK episode. Talk about how "art world / people" feel about noise is curious. Like the dismissive attitude of people Oskar mentions in question. I suppose question is valid since Richie Culver is also working in the art world, but in general always when I come across discussion about how art world sees noise (or underground culture in general), it feels like undercurrent of discussion is almost without exception some sort of need of validification?

That, seems so artist mentality, hah. That need of being accepted by artworld to be somehow as good as they are, somehow gallery or museum worthy. While, in reality, it is obvious it should be seen the other way round. Most of works on display wouldn't make it to noise album cover and experimental sound you tend to hear in museums and galleries wouldn't pass the criteria of labels who spend their own money and are in intent to sell the LP/CD to someone. I can see why someone would want to take part of something where things like funding is available, but validification from art world seems utterly unnecessary.

Imagine a future where our descendants will selling our collections at Sotheby's.

It was interesting episode. My personal experience in the art world (albeit being probably more limited and happening in Japan, where many of the people I have been talking to are of the same generation and maybe to some extent also familiar with works of for example Merzbow and Haino Keiji) towards noise/industrial has been mostly of excitement or interest instead of looking down on it. But that along many other things might be different in Europe.

OUT NOW! Jacob Winans on WCN Podcast!

Jacob Winans is a New York based artist with roots in multiple East Coast scenes who diligently tours the U.S. and abroad with a punk ethos. His noise work utilizes makeshift and broken digital systems, giving a raw, almost primitive edge to "computer music," that is personal to the point of autobiographical. His discography includes numerous releases on No Rent Records, as well as Flag Day Recordings and Industrial Coast, among others.

yeah, this one was perfect for me getting back into harsh noise. the last one looked quite interesting, bloated data. i really like the idea of physical noise being added, it kind of elevates the abrasiveness of it all. i've yet to check it out but i do appreciate this type of approach.

Man has very good insight on what he is doing and can put things into words. I am not big fan of the style of sound, but got to appreciate the drive he has for doing his own ways.
