There are many topics that could be commented. Just few weeks ago I was talking with friend and he said he might be "conservative". I told him I doubt it. You rarely hear things like "I am conservative, I have collection of tens of thousands of porn videos and magazines!". "I am conservative who runs label called Fus...." haha...

What Fusty described, seems from Finn perspective classic European liberalism. Rooted in classical liberalism, prioritizing free markets, limited government intervention, individual constitutional rights, and secular governance, etc.  Which is of course different what liberalism means in current American discussion. When most of the political language comes from USA these days, especially in the social media, it feels sometimes odd to follow.

Fusty was complimented for "everything goes" approach of noise, in context of putting out releases with left/right, different nationalities, and so on. I would assume this is more like standard if looking for labels with vast discographies and wider scope? It seems vastly later phenomena for label to set political or gender restrictions?

When you look almost any relevant labels, that's what it is. Old Europa Cafe, Cold Spring, Tesco, etc etc. You can of course debate who is exactly pure noise label and who has more broad experimental/industrial sound, but all these labels you will absolutely find left, right, women, men, diversity of nationalities, minority sexualities including also deviants and perverts, etc. It is just not a big deal, since labels belong to generation when this was automation? Therefore same applied also FA.

Not long ago, group of teenagers came to my store, asked "IS THIS A NAZI STORE?". I told if that's the type of records you want to buy, I'll have those for you, but there's also punk and hip hop if you prefer that. Girls gathered some courage and asked "isn't there some kind of conflict in selling both kinds of stuff?". I told my idea is to sell most of all weird, unusual and interesting records, and therefore there is no conflict at all. "If you put it like that...".

It is possible, that it's first time someone has told them something like that. Plus they most likely had no knowledge of anything sold in the store. Who is it, what is it, etc. It's very very odd programming in the brains of current underground culture, that naziphobia dominates even relatively intelligent minds. To point where it seemingly becomes only question revolving in their minds, but clearly phobia in the most accurate description of word.

The noise biz talk, I do wonder a bit if the hierarchy of "tapes always sell, LP sells some, CD doesn't sell" is kind of inaccurate? In terms of something being sold out instantly and something taking months or years to sell doesn't say much, unless you consider print run? Selling out fast 30, 50 or 100 tapes or selling 2-300 CD's over numbers of years? Latter might take time, but when its sold, its sold. I have almost never heard someone being able to sell more copies of tape than CD pressings. They can sell faster, but not bigger amounts. I would like to hear about noise tapes that sell 300 or more copies. I am sure there are many of those. At least there are several on Freak Animal, but generally, labels tend to do less.

I caught up with Nick after his first appearance on the podcast, as he continues on his wild tear of uniquely colorful and psychedelic noise. We talked about his many active projects and his philosophies on noise, working with Hospital Productions, the forthcoming 2CD on WCN, his gear and post production approach, making music in so many eclectic styles, Dr. John Sarno and back pain, playing live and touring, recent favorite noise, and much more.

Quote from: FreakAnimalFinland on July 29, 2026, 08:45:52 AMIn late 90's MSBR was distributing GRUNT vhs and Freak Animal VHS live comp. He could get NTSC VHS made. In trade, he sent me PAL VHS masters of Noise Progressions 1 & 2 VHS. I didn't make many copies of those releases. I might even still have the covers for them, hah... but ain't dubbing VHS copies. Whole series of 1-6 is pretty rare. Seems like about dozen people at discogs has them, indicating not many copies circulating anymore. If someone has Freak Animal Festival VHS on NTSC format, its made by MSBR and already copy of a copy (of copy?)... Original master super-VHS exists, but I don't have super vhs player anymore.

I have the FA fest VHS & Noise progression vol.1. Willing to sell if someone's interested (can't ship to the US though.) Back when I still had my shop, I had these for sale and some teenagers were interested in them, but ended up buying "The Evolution of mutant species" VHS instead. I was pretty damn amazed to sell a noise VHS here.

"The Evolution of mutant species" VHS is amazing. We were just talking about it with some friends couple weeks ago. How demented it is to mix bands like Militia... and MINCH! haha..

What I forgot to say as comment for episode was also funny discussion about sad and jaded old men still thinking Grey Wolves is the unbeatable and nothing new good out there. I do agree, that it is a bit funny. It's not always GW, but one can pick other name too. I have some friends like that. They ask is there anything good out there "since 2005" or something, and you drop some names and you know they will NOT check them out. There is number of folks who just like to complain nothing good being there.

In other hand, perhaps more amusing is, that if you really put question like "would you buy 4xLP of that project, pay the money it costs?", "would you travel to other country to see them live?"... For bands like GW, Con-Dom, GO, Whitehouse and so on, people do. A lot of new bands are good, but they are not THAT good that even people who praise them, would bother to drive few hours to see them perform. At least it seems like this. I think there is many very good new names and artists I like and sometimes wonder how people who defend idea of good artists being out there, struggle to name anyone else buy couple friends they know. This is slightly revealing. If there really would be obvious new torch bearers, people wouldn't struggle to drop few names any moment someone asks. Even if its persons who don't really need and answer.
