Normally when these periodic mass shootings happen, it doesn't hit me on an emotional level. I'm detached from it because it's just something I'm reading about on a screen. This one is different. There's still the detachment from it, but this one gives me a queasy feeling in the pit of my stomach. A massacre of little kids at an elementary school? Not only are a bunch of innocent little kids dead, there's a greater amount of them who are now left to live the rest of their lives with a mental scar that may never fully heal. This was truly a sick, evil, perverse act.
Gee, I wonder if this Lanza guy had been a kid with "behavioral problems" while growing up, so he's been pumped full of medications his whole life? I would not be surprised at all if that were true, and that should really be the issue here in terms of national/global debate. Instead, it will get overshadowed by yet more gun control debate.
I've never been a supporter of more gun control because if you make them illegal then only the criminals will have them because they don't give a shit if they're breaking the law to obtain them. I'm also a hunter, so I use a shotgun and a rifle. This event gives me pause, though...maybe there does need to be greater control. Guns are just too great a responsibility to be available to the masses.
Also, gotta love the conspiracy folk who come out of the woodwork when stuff like this happens. Some people really think that this is some kind of Manchurian candidate false-flag operation carried out by the CIA.
