Update: it was even worse than I could have anticipated. And not even the ending, just the whole book. Actually the entire series except for the first one.

Just started "I'll Be Gone In The Dark" by Michelle McNamara about the search for the Golden State Killer. Apparently it's supposed to be great.

Did a fair amount of searching the forums with no success, and if a new thread is needed I could start one but -

I'm looking for some recommendations on the subject of sound. Particularly theory, approach, etc... not so much composition or formality.
I have been recommended In Search of a Concrete Music by Pierre Schaeffer which seems like a good starting point, but am wondering if anyone else has some books on this subject they find compelling. Another loose example: I was gifted awhile ago the first Arcana book by John Zorn...

I'm looking for some recommendations on the subject of sound.

Maybe not quite what you're after but The Rest Is Noise by Alex Ross is a fantastic book on 20th Century Music - more detailing the sociopolitical conditions a lot of the artist lived under and how their work was viewed at the time, than about their approach but I friggin' love this book and I'll hype it up any chance I get.

I'd also suggest Forces In Motion by Graeme Lock about Anthony Braxton - he talks a lot about his compositional processes, as well as acting as a sort of tour diary of his 1985 Europe tour. He also eats at McDonalds every friggin' day as he spent all his money on records. It's a great read and just reissued/updated so you don't have to pay big bucks for a Da Capo 1st edition.....

Phillip Best just published a new title from N.J. entitled "The Devils".

Not too long ago I read an earlier book by an author Best is publishing. He's an ex-porn actor* & the book* was half-ass Dennis Cooper. Just awful. Can't remember his name (or his porn name) nor the name of the book.

Still wondering about this super hot take - I just finished it today and really enjoyed it. I would definitely be interested in watching the HBO series when it comes out as well - my only gripe is that they didn't really discuss anything about the capture/who GSK actually was, I had to go to frickin' Wikipedia for that. I guess "innocent until proven guilty" or whatever....

Totally agree, it should never have been published in the state it was. It read more like a collection of articles put together than a coherent book
