Quote from: HateSermon on October 11, 2023, 07:48:02 PMJust received my copy of the 3 CD Whorecestra reissue (Dada/MSNP) and it looks amazing. Good design and layout with the packaging and includes a couple extra goodies. Recommended.

I think this (posted in 2023) was where I first saw the word "Whorecestra" in this 13 year old thread.

This means that Whorecestra is:

a) criminally overlooked, or
b) previously ultra-rare, or
c) Macronympha is so awesome that dozens of other releases take precedence, or
d) it sucks.

Whatever the case, said 3CD is on the way to me as I type. And, ahem, this will be my very first Macronympha experience. (I know. Just shoot me.)

But this thread is certainly a testament to the power of this Artist. I'm intrigued! Thanks.

Absolutely not option d)!!! I think option b) would be the correct one as it was released on tape in the '90s and then a small(?) tape reissue by Stella like 15 years ago. Also option c) is valid. There have been tons of proper Macronympha reissues "lately" starting with Industrial Recollections' Baroque, Amplified Humans and Notes From The Underground. Why have labels earlier chosen to reissue those or Crack or Grind instead of Whorechestra? Maybe because they are also absolutely fantastic.

I think that Deep Reeds is one of the better archival recordings to come out of that period in Mother Savage where Rodger was distributing tapes.  It shows a very primitive Macro testing the waters of sound exploration in a charming way.  Effected saxophone and delay stutter abuse seem to be a universal fascination for artists just starting out in noise.

I totally agree, Deep Reeds might the best tape from Macronympha's archives from that era. Primitive indeed!

Listening to the Goldenrod collaboration with Streicher right now, and it is really not gripping me like I thought it would.  By the time it picks up, the record only has about 15 minutes left.  Even then, it doesn't pick up thaaaat much.

With that in mind, I am wondering if there are any Macro titles from the classic period that just don't do it for people.  Saying you hate the late 2000s and beyond stuff is low-hanging fruit.  I wanna hear your hot takes here.

Listening to the collab with Nuclear Pig Shit now, and god damn.  This is how you do harsh noise!  Very underrated entry in the discography.

Due to this thread, I was digging through some of the "archive" tapes Rodger was putting out around 2010 or so. I remember not really digging Psych Rot all that much initially, so I re-listened to it last night to see if my opinion changed.

It was recorded in 1995, same year as Pittsburgh, Grind, Crack, etc.

I don't know what was wrong with me last time I listened to it, but I was really blown away. It's not one of the classic albums, but for a c60 of unreleased material, it's impressive. Extremely dense, fast, and oppressive, similar to the c60 version of Whorechestra.
