haha! I was at a party for the first time in ages last new years eve and someone played the hair metal Discharge album, it immediately prompted me to ask what the fuck?! I'd never heard it before and was thoroughly drunkenly amused by the record, and the band picture, for the remainder of the evening. Perhaps it was because I was drunk but the vocals almost reminded me of King Diamond and some of the songs themselves weren't too bad, but maybe that was the alcohol and vagina chasing talking.

Man, those stupid boundaries between the punters and the band. Is that the standard now at European gigs? I wouldn't be surprised if it was down here too, I just don't get out a lot. But, fuck...how's a cunt meant to stage dive with that shit in the way?!

in Italy is standard only for big gigs. despite the stage looks small, this is quite a big festival in a big venue with some hundreds of people. smaller venue/squats usually have no such problems.

anyway I understand that, and this was one of the reasons I always attended gigs in Switzerland and Germany. if the gig was not in a squat (which was often the case of hc/ny bands, etc), they ended up playing in (often too) big metal venues, and it sucked...

last gigs from negative approach, agnostic front, etc. were all like this, and add beefy bouncers, etc. fuck that

I don't know, AF seems like the crowd they draw is always thick with 'hardcore' assholes. I'd be terrified to see them play in a squat where the security is a couple of vegan crusty punks.

tiny_tove

well, maybe today.
they played in many squats in Italy back in the days with no problems (and there was no need of security).
gigs with almost 1000 people happly breaking their bones in the pit :)
saw them several times through the years and always good fun.

Not so much in the mood for industrial noise today, so I'm just listening to OBLIVIANS Best Of The Worst: 93-97 2xLP after I don't know how many years - and enjoying it.
It seems I always had (and still have) a soft spot for all those garage punk bands from the nineties, some of which were released for example by Crypt Records like Country Teasers, Los Ass-Draggers and Oblivians.

I miss His Hero is Gone.  Really do.  Particularly when Patrick was the other guitarist (demo, 7", 15 Counts), but I love it all.  And their shows were some of the best HC I've ever seen.  Paul Burdette is an underrated drummer and punk musician.

Revisiting Hellshock's 1st album, all Contagium, and Stagnation, which was a big surprise to me.  Never heard of Stagnation.  They basically did one 7", and it is decent quality Swedish death metal, not crust like I expected.  Ryan Butler of Unruh ran the controls.

Also delved into relatively new Scottish territory, which is ridiculous considering some of my favorite HC are bands like Sedition, Disaffect, Ruin, TRIBE, and Scatha.  Listened to Fastard and Filthpact all day long yesterday.  https://filthpact.bandcamp.com/

I only buy vinyl, d00ds.

Got back to listening to Japanese hardcore. Just yesterday I was playing some GUDON, and it amazes me how untouched a lot of the Japanese sound was.

I wouldn't even call it "ahead of its time" because not many bands produced this kind of sound beyond the mid-to-late 80's. In fact, there only seems to be a recent resurgence of this incredibly noisy hc in the past decade or so.

I was purging records today and playing some of this stuff to review it.... Teengemerate, Kill-a-Watts, Mummies, Supercharger, but my favourite record of this style will always be the one sided Loli & The Chones LP.

I don't think I've spun the first Suicidal Tendencies LP in a decade so that's up next.

absurdexposition

The Mummies are way up there. The Devo covers are killer.

Came across the first Suicidal Tendencies LP at work the other day, didn't put it on. Probably been a decade for me as well. I've got a soft spot for "How Will I Laugh Tomorrow...", though.
