Skin Crime - S/T

After picking up the Recycled tape from RRR the other day, I've been locked in on Skin Crime material and had to revisit the self titled release that Hospital put out.

The album is themed around The Black Dahlia murder case, I believe Dom described it as "the ultimate skin crime" and the sound in an odd way reflects that. A bit more ambient than other material but it works perfectly here. It's still harsh but more sparse, ominous and hazy. Has the "unsolved" feeling represented greatly. And if anyone catches Skin Crime in August, just know my jealousy is through the roof.

Meat Shop - Gambrel (Deadline)

New release from the infamous Meat Shop.

This thing has flowing harsh electronics layered underneath an absolutely drilling high end feedback. The feedback never relents and is an unmoving presence during the whole release. The harsh electronics progress through various movements, but are a very fried underbelly to the scorching on top. While not harsh noise wall, there is a stillness or molasses-like movement to the sounds that carries a similar process and might be more punishing as the frequencies are more extreme. This release varies from the classic 90's Meat Shop sound, but it's an interesting release.

I recommend that anyone unfamiliar with the project check out older releases as well. The classic Dragging Meat Rape album was recently reissued on CD by Antihumanism Records. Richard also reissued material from 1995 titled Krackstrip, which first appeared on a split with Pile of Eggs that is very worthwhile.

If you are into drilling feedback and are looking for something similar to this Meat Shop tape, Richard had another release in this batch called Witches - Bathed in Human Blood! It used similar techniques where the piercing feedback remained unwavering as an anchor to the track, but it contained a really nice mechanical droning underneath.

Tribe Tapes

Deterge - Be Prepared CD [Fusty Cunt, 2026]
complete magnum opus-level of bonehead techno / jock jams de-composed with power and stamina -- essential listening for alice deejay, con-dom fans etc.

Slacking - Curling Pupils Of Sleep 'Neath Bended Moon LP [Fusty Cunt, 2026]
defining psychedelic noise that harkens lost contact-era greif through a familiar pittsburgh-harsh-lens wherein it is completely separate from anything in the current zeitgeist without pretension, "true sound of love" type of record

Bizarre Uproar "Indoctrination of Fist & Cock" (Filth and Violence - 2019) - in contrast to the hilarious and (almost literally) "in your face" OTT CD cover art, this album never really gets as extroverted, brash and brutal as you would perhaps expect it to.

Opening with a pair of 11-minute epics- "Blood & Cum" and "Kumijumala" ("Rubber God")- these both concentrate heavily on minimalistic junk metal loops, which bring to mind both the intimate squeakings of old skool classics like The New Blockaders' "Changez les Blockeurs" and the rough, overdriven scrap bashing of modern acts like Aprapat and The New Boyfriends. All the while we hear various synthesizer tones doing their thing alongside the rusted noise, the phased drones of "Blood & Cum" giving the track an almost cosmic feel, whilst "Kumijumala" goes more for gross, Atrax Morgue-styled croaks and twitters.

The second portion of the album doesn't deviate wildly from what we've heard prior- the short "Karelian Women" condenses the basic ideas from "Blood & Cum" into a tight, 4-minute package, its constant rhythmic backbone and buried melodic refrain taking things close to "song" territory, whilst the closer "Mantra" plays out like a second part of "Kumijumala", reprising the queasy PE synth work, but instead overlaying it with altogether more freeform junk abuse.

The looped vocals are kept low in the mix throughout the album, relegated to being a background layer of gurgling- in fact, they're so quiet that on my first couple of plays through, I thought it was purely instrumental.

So, as I say, not the craziest or nastiest BU album out there, with no harsh blasting sections or lung-busting vocal attacks, which may be disappointing for some. It didn't immediately jump out at me when I first got it, but I figured I'd give it another spin and the more I played it to do this review, the more it's grown on me like some insidious rash!

Macronympha - Physical Chaos (Mother Savage Noise Productions)
Not as chaotic as one would hope for!  Indeed, this early release finds the group still figuring out some kinks in their design, but it is still a highly enjoyable listen.  Much more focus on loop work than the spastic releases to come.  It's more of a dirge than harsh manifesto that Macro would go onto present with each release.  One notable feature this tape has is really long gaps of silence between tracks, which is almost antithetical to the entire idea of recording onto C90s then for the group, where they would fill up as much sound as possible.

Macronympha - Monitoring, Measuring, Calibrating (Mother Savage Noise Productions)
A while ago on this thread, I had debates over who really edited or contributed to this one, as it is only credited to Roemer.  Today's listen has me believing that Roemer handling the final mix could be possible, as it is more in line with the type of editing style I have heard from those types of releases.  Halfway through A though, the sounds of beeping synth has me believe that Stimbox plays some part in all of this.  Still hoping that someday, this record will receive a proper reissue, as it is quite a mighty entry in the Macro discography, despite being a show-only tape.
