The "dungeon" motif might be the cheesiest music in my library.  That isn't to say it isn't without merit, without a role, or garbage.  I find it laughable in much the same way as the fun, goofy characters of Sturmpercht or Arkanum.  Was Mortiis the first to create a character and use prosthetics?  One of its endearing qualities is that is so poorly played and crude, sort of like so much early punk.  Like children stepping to their first keyboard at X-mas morning.  It's just awful, but fun.  I would say that some of the worst ambient I've ever heard has come out of black metal (ie Ildjarn).  I'd be game for the total shitshow of a result of Steve Roach or Vidna Obmana teaming up with Mortiis or Burzum.
Wouldn't the northaunt & Vinterriket splits count?. because I've read reviews saying how weak Vinterriket is and how far better northaunt is.

Cemetery of Scream - Deeppression
Nice intros and outros of the lo fi keyboard nature.
Otherwise excellent "depressive" etc black metal.

Velehentor has this vibe with dark ambient, I think.

Speaking of BM artists that actually make good ambient, this one has excellent ambient tracks between songs. Dhampyr  - https://www.discogs.com/Dhampyr-White-Fire-Laudanum/release/4660889

Havohej seems to do this dungeon keyboard stuff at times, as well as straight black metal, but I am liking the sort of industrial dungeon mess that tracks like these are:

I have been lately enjoying this type of "stoner group voodoo chant" stuff for a limited time.   It doesn't seem genuine, but it's kind of preferable to some Native American authentic ritual, at least to me.

A caterpillar that goes around trying to rip the wings off of butterflies is not a more dominant caterpillar, just a caterpillar that is looking for a bigger caterpillar to crush him.  Some caterpillars are mad that they will never grow to be butterflies.

I highly recommend this. One of the best black metal related ambient tapes I have ever heard.

It is a really good example for stuff which is done right. No chessy something in it. I totally dig it and looking
deeper to find more such gems.

The Hidden Congregation "Missa Rubra Carrosiana" tape
hand made package in form of neat cardboard box, hand numbered 49 copies.
Label says: "Missa Rubra Carcosiana represents the live recording of The Hidden Congregation, a project created by members of Semai and Stor, from a gig in Bratislava club A4, 20. 2. 2015. For this evening The Hidden Congregation has prepared a special set inspired by the mythology of H. P. Lovecraft and Robert W. Chambers. Sonically, it is occult themed drone/noise with an insinuated black metal feeling, whose main lines roll on through continuous development of central frequencies and musical leitmotifs."

I don't find particularly black metal feeling. More it fits into simply realms of drone/noise/ritual, sometimes even hints of euro heavy electronics! Especially being dubbed all-on-red-all-the-time, is perhaps element what adds nice rumbling and blurry element to this mix, in genre what often suffers from slightly too polished productions. Once in a while it seems surprisingly good, that I even start to wonder how I have not seen this name mentioned anywhere? I just notice it was for sale in Tower Transmissions and traded this for couple Grunt tapes.

STOR "Forgotten Sewers" tape
Czech dark ambient industrial power electronics project what one could say almost the same as about the tape above. I guess it was also related projects? This one, small cardboard box ltd 39 copies. "Demons from the past are reborn as horrors of the future. Potential of the human mind is endless. The rest is noise." One got to appreciate any industrial-noise-ambient tape with bold statements/manifestos printed in insert.

Gwydion Sagelinge did some Ambient/Synth music under the names Grimoirum Verum (that was together with someone else) and Lingedal. It's been years since I listened to this stuff and I can't exactly remember what I thought of Grimoirum Verum, but I remember quite liking Lingedal.

So kinda related, though definitely infinitely stranger. A friend/coworker told me he heard of this band called Shevalreq from Vancouver Canada and just how utterly fucking confusing it was. His description was a medieval cd-rom video game having a stroke while someone does black metal vocals on top. So I listened and it cast this total what the fuck expression across my face for the rest of the day. From what I can find out there was a short lived label named Hekaloth that put out this stuff from 07-08. The cover art is amazing and the music seems to be all Casio sampler based with occasional guitar solos (the albums all seem to tell one large story)... It is def in the spectrum of the ritual genre of black metal but from a total left field approach.

I can't say I it blows me away but it utterly confused me, so I keep listening to see if there is something there.

I'm curious if anyone else has come across this stuff? It's obviously not for everyone, maybe not for anyone but it is bizarre.
