Also of potential interest is the German label Voldsom Tapes, specifically the project Til Det Bergens Skyggene. Some of it is classic sounding dungeon synth, and some is BM intro\interlude acoustic or even some very weird tracks with accordion or something. But for sure worth checking out.

Hello, one of the most powerful recordings into dark occult/ritual is with no doubt: Akhkharu "Nos Noctium Dominarium" tape out on Dark Age Prod. in the late nineties, what a masterpiece!

In fact, everything on the Avon Terror Corps label is gold in my eyes.

Kind of surprising to me that in 4 pages, Lord Wind hasn't been mentioned. The early stuff (Forgotten Songs/split with Mysterial) is some of my favorite "extended BM intro" material. Here's the aforementioned Mysterial, which sounds like a draft for Lord Wind: https://youtu.be/_szCefGa-Nk

Early Equimanthorn is definitely on the better end of this too, much more atmospheric than the majority of dungeon synth, which often gets too gay/new agey for my tastes:

Amaka Hahina is worth a mention as well, falls in with the sounds of most of the LLN ambient/BM projects:

Helel Dalkiel is minimal "black industrial" type stuff from the 90's, worth checking out if you can find the tape.

NO PART OF IT

Dhampyr does this very well on the Prison Tatt CD, excellent dark ambient comprising half of the CD or so, while the other half is excellent black metal.  Dhampyr has done some more noise-oriented tapes that are also worth noting.

AND...  It's a little too obvious, but worth noting because this is still some of my favorite of the genre:

A caterpillar that goes around trying to rip the wings off of butterflies is not a more dominant caterpillar, just a caterpillar that is looking for a bigger caterpillar to crush him.  Some caterpillars are mad that they will never grow to be butterflies.

I don't listen to dark ambient too much but I've been really into Werwolfsblut lately. Mostly while drawing or making collages.

T.G.V.T - Rinde Humano -
i actually found this in a used bin at a record store for $5. intrigued by the track on the "ant-hology" compilation on Ant-Zen i decided this was a good pick. unique sound. weird. https://www.discogs.com/Third-Global-Vagina-Torture-TGVT-Rinde-Humano/release/253421
Hadn't listened to this in a long time.  A little darker than Zoviet France, but if you like one, ZF might be of interest.  Also Tam Quam Tabula Rasa, Temps Perdu?, Hybryds, and maybe even Life Garden and W. David Oliphant's world.  TGVT is maybe more industrial in the sense and place of the early 90s.  Most of the tracks are around four minutes, so lots of ideas well explored on Rinde Humano.  I forget about this album, but I always really enjoy it when I get around to it.

A couple of recent(ish) releases that I think avoid the cliches of the genre and might appeal to noise/industrial fans:

Both are by artists I can't find much of anything about online.

Replying to ancient post I know but these are all amazing!

I should mention my own 'dungeon synth' project here... https://disgustingcathedral.bandcamp.com/... part of the concept was to record my idea of what dungeon synth - or more to the point 'dungeon noise' - should sound like, before I really listened to much. Tho I had heard some when I started out and too much by now. Main impetus was my annoyance at the fact that 'dungeon noise' was becoming a subgenre but a lot of it wasn't even Noise, just normal DS but played and recorded even more ineptly than usual.

Into_The_Void

Way too wide description and including too many different things (basically everything from Nekrophile Rekords tapes to Vinterriket coming across Burzum ambient records, Mortiis, etc..), but still interesting macro-container of evil black metal inspired music, not played with metal equipment though.

I didn´t see them named in this topic so I throw my 2 cents on the table with some French projects which came out for black metal labels around 15 years ago like Dapnom, Nommam Erytz, Taog Susej etc..minimal satanic death industrial with a lot of creepy, disturbing and evil atmospheres.

Quote from: FreakAnimalFinland on January 06, 2016, 11:09:20 AMIf I'm not mistaken, in Noise Receptor magazine, editor used term Dark Dungen Music (which of course refers to label of Mortiis) to describe "BM originated" keyboard music. To my taste perhaps too close to Mortiis to use widely. Perhaps also that I don't really like any Mortiis. VOND appeals a bit more. Especially Green Eyed Demon isn't that bombastic keyboard music, but closer to sound one could associate even with death industrial. Not far from MEGAPTERA or such!

Mikko - this is review I think you are referring to: https://noisereceptor.wordpress.com/2013/08/29/aeva-%e2%80%8e-%E2%88%9E/

Anyway essentially Mortiis self described his work as 'dark dungeon music' around the time of his demo, which then became the name of his label.  The 'mortiis' keyboard approach has then become know as 'dungeon synth' music in BM and related circles, which quite a few projects using the descriptor to carry the torch so to speak.

Today I still like the first 3 Mortiis albums, but mostly for nostalgia and collectible sakes. Vond on the other hand has held up far better and I agree that 'Green Eyed Demon' certainly stands apart in Vond (and Mortiis' catalogue for the matter) as a good, rough death industrial type record.

I think those first early Mortiis releases are essential and great! He's created an atmosphere and world all of his own. Also think the only good things coming out the band Emperor, we're only good because Mortiis wrote a lot of it, after Mortiis left Emperor, you can see where it starts going down hill. I think Mortiis is important as we wouldn't have great thing like Old Tower today or other great dungeon snyth and or ambient things right now that have been quite decent. I love Vond and I kind of like that it doesn't differ a whole lot from Mortiis, that was kind of the mindset when I created my own dungeon synth/dark ambient project Breaking Wheel and Black Sun Sorcery, very minor differences between, I thought it was cool that Hårvard made all these different side projects, but all kind of sounded the same, but dealt with different subject matter and by subject matter...the titles and aesthetics, not the music so much.

Toag Susej was a project of a guy who is still active in harsh noise scene last time I checked. Great project, and Nommam Erytz was alright too.
