Total Black

I ordered the Worth Hornbeam tape directly from Total Black on February 5th. It's now June 19th, and I still haven't received the tape. I paid the absurd amount of €24.61 EUR ($30 USD) to have the tape delivered from Europe. Understanding shipping costs and tariffs these days, because of incompetent US leadership, I was fine with it.

I sent an email on April 11th for an update on the order and never received a response. I made a post about this on the WCN Discord a month or so ago, and other US folks said they still haven't received the tape either.

On May 27th, I sent a very polite message on Instagram to Total Black requesting that if the tape wasn't going to be delivered, I would like a refund. Surprisingly, I finally received a response!

The answer I received was that Total Black had undercharged for shipping and tariff costs to ship a tape to the US from Europe so he was trying to figure it out... However, he was going to be traveling to the US and leaving copies for these unfilled orders in the US with a friend who would ship them "within a few days" for him to alleviate this cost disparity. OK...

Today is June 19th, and I haven't received anything. And no other updates or identification of who this "friend" is. I respectfully ask if you accidentally miscalculated costs, you own it. Come good on your orders and eat the cost if you messed up.

I paid an additional $20 USD to secure a copy from Skeleton Dust. Now I've paid $50 USD for a C20, which is absurd. Someone else in the US who is in the same boat, did the same thing.

This is one of only two cases in which I've never received what I ordered in 20 years of ordering noise from artists and labels in the scene, which makes it highly infuriating.

Been debating making a post here myself.

Ordered last October. Pre-ordered the FFH box and an LP. I first emailed in March to ask what was going on with the order. I know Hospital's preorders can be a bit crazy so I wasn't too worried. I followed up again in May and was told he didn't receive the FFH boxes. He apologised and asked me to send my details so a refund could be processed. Have heard nothing since despite following up a couple of times.

It's been so long that I'm now outside of PayPal's buyer protections.

I know sometimes life gets in the way, but the communication has been awful. The order total was over £100.

Bunch of guys have told they finally got either refund or their order that was made sometime last autumn. So he might be getting things done and not hopeless.

Anyone had any luck with Kristian Olsson? He had maintained regular contact with me for several years via socials but I see he has practically gone dark and is no longer receiving messages.

He's beyond difficult to get in touch with.

FreakAnimalFinland

I would advice not to contact him currently and wait a bit for situation to clear.

He's owed me tapes for over 20 years. Don't want them now, but hopefully he used the money for something to eat.

That's one way to put it eh? I was waiting for a copy of his book when it first dropped. Never got it. Waited till last year when Soleil Moon had a copy to finally get it.

I know he HAS technically ripped people off, and will probably continue to do so into the future but I don't believe that it is a malicious thing. I think he's just REALLY BAD at keeping on top of these things himself due to a number of things. Creating art, traveling, personal and /or tragic circumstances, etc. Life happens. We all should understand that to a degree. I think that over time he has gotten himself into such a large backlog that it feels insurmountable.

From a customer service perspective, Is it respectable? No. Is it acceptable? Again, no not really. But it is what it is.

I do know for a fact from personal experience (and I know that there are others like me), that if you stay on top of it you will eventually get your shit.

Anyway, I hope he gets through whatever this latest crisis is and gets back to creative endeavors and I hope that he gets at least something to everyone he owes things to that are still interested.

Total Black always delivers, though sometimes it takes months and several reminders. I imagine the recent shutdown of the physical store slowed them down even further but, ultimately, I've always received everything I ordered from them, as recently as a couple of months ago.

I have not been able to get in contact with Kristian Olsson for 5-6 years now with regards to some tapes I ordered from him and never received. No response no matter which channel or public / private email address I tried over the years, and I know there are people he still owes releases or money from several decades ago. Ordering from Olsson was widely regarded as a real gamble even back when I was just getting into noise well over a decade ago, though, so I can't say I wasn't warned.
