An Extreme Metal Podcast TERMINUS has taken to reviewing Total Abuse in-depth. Judging by the first few minutes I just listened to: seems this could be a much more intelligent/insightful take on his work than the handful of prior podcasts of this nature.

By the looks of it, this first episode covers just Pure, and I'm assuming there'll be follow-up episodes on Tool and Parasite.

UPDATE: This is - unexpectedly - quite a brilliant listen actually. One of the best takes on Sotos's work I've heard/read - not that it's exactly an arena cramming for attention, beyond the usual shite. The host seems rather familiar with his entire oeuvre, in relation to his early work. So here's hoping he carries on further past Total Abuse..

Instant subscription. One of the greatest things I've ever come accross on the Internet. Really to-the-point in-depth investigation, explainative and devoid of any overintellectualization. I don't know if I'm sure about it, but it might be the first 'fan-made' material I watched that goes beyond the angle upon which his work is often analyzed. The assessment made on the first part I agree 100%. It's funny that discussions around "trangressive" art float around a collectively constructed dichotomy of "Is this a celebration of X?" vs "Is this a critique of [whatever, but possibly capitalism if you're from the millenial generation]?" Personally, I couldn't care less, but one of the things that make me discomfortable with this angle upon which such works are analyzed is that removes the sadism, hate, perversity and overall gigantic Todestrieb present on such music. And what more can one desire? That's why the statement made on the nature of "true crime" is true. Unfortunately, I have yet to read more of his books throughout the years, but its inavailability is a bummer.

A quick update for those interested: I'm currently working on the script for a piece on Tool. No anticipated release date since that seems to always bring bad luck. I imagine it'll be around the same length or perhaps a bit longer than the one on Pure- there's more ground to cover in the text, but less preamble re: Sotos in the first place. Hopefully you'll all enjoy it. I'll make a post when it's out. Thanks to all who have listened and found other material of interest on the podcast.

Such great news, will be happy to watch it when finished!

Hey everyone. New episode is up as of just now. Youtube version will probably be up sometime in the middle of the night, but for the time being you can listen to it here. Hope you all enjoy it as much as you did the first episode.

EDIT: On Youtube now for those who prefer that. It will also trickle onto all the various podcast platforms (if it hasn't already by this posting.)

This is one of the best podcast series I've heard in a long long time. Super stoked for the 3rd episode.

Thanks for listening and glad you enjoyed.

Starting on the script for Parasite now. Already finished my re-read of the material. No anticipated release date as usual. I imagine this one will be shorter than the last despite how much material there is. I'm not going to go through it volume by volume; rather just highlight common themes, techniques, more broad ideas. I'll of course post here when it's done.

Thanks again to everyone who listened for their support and kind comments. It really does help make this project worth all the time and effort.

Please never stop these. Sotos produced so, so much material over the last decades, and there is basically nil intelligent and worthy discussion of it online (or otherwise, really). So this is so important to so many people.

Thanks for the kind words. I'm glad so many people have found something worthwhile in this little pet project of mine. I plan to continue these pieces, at least in theory, through the entire bibliography, though I hate to promise something so ambitious when life has so many ways to disrupt your plans. Still, it means a lot to me too, so I will continue.

To make things a little clearer, though, and to avoid any potential disappointment: after my piece on Parasite is done, I'll probably be done with covering Sotos for the rest of 2025. There's many other books (and records, and games, and etc.) that I'd like to talk about also, so I'll spend the rest of the year doing some of that. I plan to spend 2026 covering Index through Tick, essentially folding them together as Proxy in the way these first three pieces are compiled as Total Abuse.

Hopefully the relatively slow pace of production doesn't disappoint anyone, but I would rather take my time and produce material of (what I hope is) real value rather than rush the process and make something sloppy and trite. The channel is something I consider thoroughly anti-slop content, and if that makes things a little slower, so be it. And not to sound overly delicate, but repeatedly reading Sotos work, taking notes, writing the scripts, etc. definitely wears on me psychologically more than most content, which will be doubly true for the Proxy books which I consider particularly grueling. It's largely great work, but takes an unusual toll on my mental health to repeatedly read.

Thanks again for listening, and I hope you all enjoy my thoughts on Parasite as much as the other two.
