2nd Degree is a little harsh but it fits, I suppose. Second Degree is when someone kills without premeditation or planning, an act of passion or an on the spot killing type of thing or the actions of the accused somehow led to the death of the victim. Manslaughter is generally "death due to negligence" or by creating a deadly situation on purpose like playing with a loaded gun, and has to include the knowledge that one's actions may result in death, where involuntary is the opposite, like when you accidentally kill somebody maybe hitting them with a car when you are on the phone or while DUI. If they find self-defense then it will be an excusable homicide but this can happen even in cases of first degree murder.
