I know we've talked about it at various points in this thread, but as I have been trying to go through 2016 to make a best of list, I've been pleasantly reminded of the good power-violence showing this year.  Am I missing anything?  Cave State's 2nd EP came out in 2015.

Burnout - s/t 2016 - nice to see this style still alive with at least a couple bands doing it justice (Cave State) - this doesn't have quite the precision heavy production of Wound Man.

Death Agonies - Final Recording 2016 - This is one of my favorite forms of power-violence.  Man is the Bastard style, with power-electronics, hardcore, and caveman crude hardcore.  *check out the Survivalist bandcamp page.  it's a web release.

Wound Man - Perimeter 2016 - quality power-violence with high-quality Sabbath-esque parts, ie "Temple".

I think the tape was out in 2015 but the Vile Intent - Machine Into Flesh LP was one of my favorite albums of 2016 period. Wasn't too surprised to see at Total Black bandcamp that some of the members also have noise/industrial projects.

I don't usually care much for meathead hardcore that they played on the early records but even at that point there was a strong sense of filth and deviance to their music that I haven't found in much other music of the sort.

The later releases where the influence of Sotos, black metal etc. started shaping the sound and themes of the music as much as the "feel" of it, are obviously great...

Thanks.  I didn't know about it, and I like it.  A little more grindcore than power-violence, but I'll take it.

edit:  the earlier stuff, like the Shadow of the Skull 7", seems to be more plodding/flying dynamic PV.  I'm into it all.

Vile Intent are good but are only active once or twice a year with members being split between Montreal and Berlin. Last year's LP is great, but it took a little too long to came out.

Members are also in REMWAR (https://remwar.bandcamp.com), Terse (http://terse.likeweeds.org), Flat Teeth (http://flatteeth.likeweeds.org) and some others that likely don't have recordings yet. I'm in a new band with the guitarist.

Hans drummed in Mocoso for a bit (which is the brainchild of Jose from S.H.I.T.) - the demo tape from a couple years back is totally killer (https://laincreiblevidadeserunmocoso.bandcamp.com/releases) - and Jay played bass in Facade (http://facade.likeweeds.org)


Total support for Death Agonies. The video appears to be gone from YouTube but there's great footage of a DA show featuring Kiyasu from Sete Star Sept freaking out. Anyone have a link to that?

One that will likely make my best of 2016 list.  It's "dirty" and not necessarily raw or crude.  They got a great sound on this thing:

Hashed Out - Cosmic Pessimism 2016 - raw, dirty hardcore with a nice element of power-violence at times - don't judge it by the horrible album cover - I can see this appealing more to the pure hardcore types than the grinders.

Harsh - Reality CD 2000 - forgot how good this Infest/pv was - would like to see a discography CD.

Control Mechanism - crude Finnish power-violence - another forgotten band from the 90s - the covers would lead you to think it is power-electronics.

VA-Human Skin Lanterns 2016 - not too into the other two bands so much, but Captain Three Leg deliver on some quality power-violence (not joking, and this band is underrated).  It's free.  Give them a shot.

*I haven't been a big fan of Noothgrush in the past, but since Dino Dystopia has been on vocals (2012?), they've been writing good songs and riffs.  Maybe it is just me, and I should re-visit the old stuff.

I talked to someone from Harsh this summer and he said there's been talks about doing it again on and off. Would be really cool to see.

I've yet to listen to Human Skin Lanterns but the Reeking Cross stuff on the split tape with Sedem Minut Strachu was great. And C3L is always good.

And Noothgrush is one of the best ever, even so that I play in a band that is at times a 1:1 rip-off of them. I'd recommend to check out Erode The Person LP and the Live For Nothing CD/LP on Southern Lord.
