Electro Surgeon

Been involved in the Australian punk/hardcore scene for over 30 years

Nearly 50 years old and still touring, going to shows, putting out zones and records on my label.

Also been pissing off the punks by playing noise at shows

Some fuck wits still get upset when a noise band plays a punk gig

Check this video out we did last week

Recorded at Sydney punks picnic feb19

Sound sucks but funny footage

if you like bands like Sacrilege, particularly because of the vocals, check out Subversive Rite.  Not quite as heavy as Sacrilege, but it's crusty nonetheless.

Counterblast...Balance of Pain is where the trend of 90's symphonic black metal best met the call of Swedish crusters.  The Prospects 7" too.  They then went the way of Neurosis with the next album, Impassivity.  I'm not your biggest Neurosis fan, but Impassivity strikes me as one of the best of that type.  The 2LP version has some key comp tracks on side D.  They then went more and more in that direction and pretty much lost me.

Not so much a fan of their records from what i remember - but killing live !

also a krishnacore band counterblast from around me who i forgot until i saw this post: https://counterblast.bandcamp.com/releases

i'll also shout out 108 and Shelter here as well for all you krishnacore heads ;) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dscTeQ_aYAA

Disprove...were related to Beyond Description.  I didn't know that.  Both being on Forest Records should have been a hint.  Sharp Dis-.  It won't set the house afire, but that added snap and BD sound is a nice twist.  The s/t 7" is the better.  DISPROVE was formed as project d-beat band by BEYOND DESCRIPTION, VIVISECTION and SENSELESS APOCALYPSE members in 1994.  It's too bad Vivisection didn't do more.  They had a spectacular moment or two.  And early Senseless Apocalypse/Cunt Decide noisecore is darn fine.  I like what came after too, but when I think of SA, that s/t 7" and demo are what first come to mind.  1992-1995.

I was huge into Doom in my teens - in my twenties it was a once a year thing while I cranked a beer, now in my almost 40's I'm back to playing this band on constant repeat.

Then I wind up cranking the RISTIINNAULITTU KAAOS 12" and NUUKE 7" which is my top tier Kaaos/Finnish hardcore in general. Mad props to Havoc for keeping these in print for 1000 years.

Re-listening all the Killed by death comps, some incredible gems.

Watched the videos of the Alone in a crowd live set in tears... When the lady of Eaten alive joins to sing Telltale by Killing time is incredible. I hope she soon forms a new project as she told me since she is one of the very few female singers that nails it anything she does.

NYHC done in the UK.  Raw and classic sound.

PKR-076: Big Cheese - Don't Forget To Tell The World LP
After the release of their euro only EP, Big Cheese overwhelmingly established themselves as one of the best NYHC-style bands around (despite being based in UK), and made their claim as the live band to beat on stages across Europe. With a US tour imminent, and new material in the works, Painkiller presents a 12" of all previously released material by Big Cheese (the aforementioned 7", their prior demo tape) plus a demo of a new song, all newly mastered and cut to on a 12" to be played at maximum volume. New cover art by local legend Liam Fox of The Flex. This is the version of these songs to own. First 100 on orange vinyl.

A month or two ago I was digging deep into Napalm Death and revisiting Meathook Seed, Godflesh, Decree (the MIGHTY) and maybe a thing or two in that realm.  In the past couple weeks, Negative Insight* has been pushing a conversation elsewhere about "industrial crust".  I believe he's planning some articles in a coming issue.  I've always liked this kind of thing, but my efforts to dig have been lazy.  I mean...I hadn't knowingly heard Christdriver until a day or two ago, and Extreme Noise sold a few of those things.  I've been really enjoying going from Agathocles, Blood, and Anarchus to this sub-genre.  There might not be a lot of this out there, but what I hear is good, to very good, quality.

*also, check out the very cool early Finnish punk photos at Negative Insight

Depressor - everything I can find.  Not sure what I'm missing, but it can't be much, if any at all.  I feel like I've heard this band, but I've never enjoyed them as much as I do now.  That unreleased 1995 album is very cool.  Same for Filth/Grace.  Check out Fuck Yoga's bandcamp for free downloads.

Mortified - Drivel demo 1991 - again, I'm into it, especially the back end of this demo - looking forward to hearing the unreleased LP Sludge Records (France) half-assedly released, but who knows when that will be.

Christdriver - yeah, never knowingly heard them.  Looking for rips of their demo and their 7", if anyone happens to have that.  Would really appreciate it.  Please PM me.  Great stuff.

Gutural - Tirocinio 1993 - one of the guys from Rudio de Rabia is in this - probably the most crude of all these bands - good demo.
Gutural - Visionario 1994 - haven't heard this one yet, but I have it cued.

Dead World - all but their very first 7" - a Relapse band - I've always like this band a lot, but I also tend to be a Jonathan Canady fan - Collusion and The Machine never got the talk they deserved; not sure why - while not crusty, they were definitely metal and riffy, but they also had some decent, topical lyrics. For example, check out "Saturnalia" off Collusion - by their 2nd release, The Machine, they'd moved more industrial, but there's also some nice tribalism in there too. Segments of "Lies" remind me of Roy/Nausea. Never hear anyone talk about Dead World, but I like them more than Pitchshifter and as much as a lot of this other stuff.

also, I'll probably always be fond of bands giving His Hero is Gone the nod.  Not a lot of those out there.  I think maybe the last Acursed album is the last one in my memory.  This band is cool by me.

Sentient Ruin just released a Depressor compilation. Need to pick it up myself. https://sentientruin.bandcamp.com/album/hell-storms-over-earth

Christdriver is great also. Doing a band now where the M.O. is powerviolence mixed with Christdriver/Nightstick dirge parts.
