A month or two ago I was digging deep into Napalm Death and revisiting Meathook Seed, Godflesh, Decree (the MIGHTY) and maybe a thing or two in that realm. In the past couple weeks,
Negative Insight* has been pushing a conversation elsewhere about "industrial crust". I believe he's planning some articles in a coming issue. I've always liked this kind of thing, but my efforts to dig have been lazy. I mean...I hadn't knowingly heard Christdriver until a day or two ago, and Extreme Noise sold a few of those things. I've been really enjoying going from Agathocles, Blood, and Anarchus to this sub-genre. There might not be a lot of this out there, but what I hear is good, to very good, quality.
*also, check out the very cool early Finnish punk photos at
Negative InsightDepressor - everything I can find. Not sure what I'm missing, but it can't be much, if any at all. I feel like I've heard this band, but I've never enjoyed them as much as I do now. That unreleased 1995 album is very cool. Same for Filth/Grace. Check out Fuck Yoga's bandcamp for free downloads.
Mortified - Drivel demo 1991 - again, I'm into it, especially the back end of this demo - looking forward to hearing the unreleased LP Sludge Records (France) half-assedly released, but who knows when that will be.
Christdriver - yeah, never knowingly heard them. Looking for rips of their demo and their 7", if anyone happens to have that. Would really appreciate it. Please PM me. Great stuff.
Gutural - Tirocinio 1993 - one of the guys from Rudio de Rabia is in this - probably the most crude of all these bands - good demo.
Gutural - Visionario 1994 - haven't heard this one yet, but I have it cued.
https://archive.org/search.php?query=creator%3A%22Gutural%22Dead World - all but their very first 7" - a Relapse band - I've always like this band a lot, but I also tend to be a Jonathan Canady fan - Collusion and The Machine never got the talk they deserved; not sure why - while not crusty, they were definitely metal and riffy, but they also had some decent, topical lyrics. For example, check out "Saturnalia" off Collusion - by their 2nd release, The Machine, they'd moved more industrial, but there's also some nice tribalism in there too. Segments of "Lies" remind me of Roy/Nausea. Never hear anyone talk about Dead World, but I like them more than Pitchshifter and as much as a lot of this other stuff.
also, I'll probably always be fond of bands giving His Hero is Gone the nod. Not a lot of those out there. I think maybe the last Acursed album is the last one in my memory. This band is cool by me.
