I grew up in a remote area in Northern Canada, so being a punk was a pretty outrageous thing to most people, as almost everyone grew up on country & western and hockey and stuff. There was like 50 or so weirdos, tops in a town of around 40,000, which was the biggest town in miles around. People in all the little adjacent places would talk about Timmins as a "big city", so I guess it could have been worse. I got my ass kicked at like 13 by 30 year old skids. I got my ass kicked constantly, but I thought it was kind of fun.
Nowadays, I guess because of the internet or something, there's lots of "emo" and whatever kind of kids there, and they seem to have no problem with it.
On the bus - Here as well, everyone puts their bags on the seats beside them, even on crowded bus. I'm usually pretty good for that, and always offer my seat to old people, but when middle aged women tell me I should get up and give them my seat, I usually say "I'm sorry, I didn't realize that your gender was a disability" and they don't want it anymore when I vacate it for them. That hasn't happened often, but 2-3 times at least.
