I realise Pitchfork is like The Guardian for music, but this particular piece rates for me as a great example of right-on revisionism.

I don't know or care how accurate "DWC" is as a document of punk at the time (I know Jello Biafra complained that it was "slanted" due to the footage of Fear), but at least it has some spirit of punk before the right-on rot set in. Alas, our scribe Hazel Cills (who is also "a staff writer for the teen website, Rookie Mag") seems to think that punk began with Minor Threat or something. Wonder how she'd deal with bands like The Nihilistics or Anal Cunt. As far as she's concerned "the vision of punk that emerges is not as a threatening mass of rebellion and politics, but one that plays almost like a satire of itself".

But she does like Pharmakon. Pharmakon is "sound art".

lol
although I enjoyed Marina Abramovic's old days work, whenever I hear her name now I cannot stop thinking of the lady gaga connection and the dreadful figure she mada claiming Jay Z was somehow a crook:

Abramovic has been a bit of a media darling down here lately because she's had a recent gig at the MONA. I'm admitting that more and more I'm becoming a philistine when it comes to a lot of modern and post-modern art. For the moment I'll just draw a line after the abstract impressionists and say everything after them was a pile of fucking self-important shit. After Rothko, nothing, as it should have been.

EDIT - as if to prove my point -

Maybe I should start a thread on artistic faggotry.

Jesus fucking christ.

But you're right about the comments. Personal favourite -
Quote"Startling new revelations in the field of revisionist history proves conclusively that Europeans did not eat food until roughly the 18th century, when they saw slaves doing it."

EDIT - and The Guardian is off the blocks a little late, but running with it anyway -

Good old Barbara Ellen. I often think these writers are all just taking the piss. It's just too fucking easy.

It's Sunday and I've got nothing better to do, so here's another one for you all. A poem this time -
http://www.thefeministwire.com/2015/07/3-poems-by-joshua-jennifer-espinoza/

THE MOON IS TRANS

The moon is trans.

From this moment forward, the moon is trans.

You don't get to write about the moon anymore unless you respect that.

You don't get to talk to the moon anymore unless you use her correct pronouns.

You don't get to send men to the moon anymore unless their job is

to bow down before her and apologize for the sins of the earth.

She is waiting for you, pulling at you softly,

telling you to shut the fuck up already please.

Scientists theorize the moon was once a part of the earth

that broke off when another planet struck it.

Eve came from Adam's rib.

Etc.

Do you believe in the power of not listening

to the inside of your own head?

I believe in the power of you not listening

to the inside of your own head.

This is all upside down.

We should be talking about the ways that blood

is similar to the part of outer space between the earth and the moon

but we're busy drawing it instead.

The moon is often described as dead, though she is very much alive.

The moon has not known the feeling of not wanting to be dead

for any extended period of time

in all of her existence, but

she is not delicate and she is not weak.

She is constantly moving away from you the only way she can.

She never turns her face from you because of what you might do.

She will outlive everything you know.

There's something a bit Rule 34 about that.

In fact, the over-thinkers are as much a part of pop culture as the videos. There's a whole industry of punditry devoted to "analysing" popcult that's so dependent on it it's virtually fused with it. And that's good for popcult because, basically, they are an arm of the advertising division. While the university courses and media pundits and bloggers were once basically preying on the latest video or book or movie or advertisement, they are now definitely kept in mind by at least the savvier popcult "creatives". How aware the pundits are of this is another matter.

EDIT - have to admit I wasn't aware of people writing to Ray Bradbury wanting him to re-write "The Martian Chronicles". Have to file that one away for future use.

Apologies seem to be big in the US at the moment. Ariana Grande had to apologise for licking doughnuts and saying "I hate America". Apparently the police are involved in investigating the licking part.

What I found interesting was how defensive a lot of people were of their "selfies" in the comments section. Some people even tried to use Van Gough self portraits to make a point.

It's odd how people actually feel the need to justify their narcissism with clap-trap like "empowerment". There's plenty of feel-good, post self-help psuedo psychological mumbo where people feel they can actually declare they are "beautiful" no matter how much physical evidence there is to the contrary, but some feel the need to add "empowerment" to the mantra. Feminism is becoming a victim of it's own success.
