Richard Ramirez - Tracking Device (Freak Animal)

This could be my favorite Richard Ramirez release yet! It's a bit different than his other releases or from what I've previously heard until now. Tracking Device sounds a bit more droning and industrial. The atmosphere sounds naturally ominous, gives off this almost dark ambient vibe at times. I think there was a thread about RR/BLJ where someone had mentioned wanting to hear more of this type of style by Richard. Tracking Device would definitely be that one!

Tracking Device is more of a Rotten Piece album than it is a Ramirez album; the entire thing was mixed and edited by RP using RR's source sounds, hence why it's vastly different than anything else RR has done.

Interesting, I did not know this. After doing some research into the matter, it appears they've collaborated before this too. I'll have to look more into their collaborative efforts, because Tracking Devices is quite an interesting album overall.

I may have one you, if you remind in next order. Its just bunch of flyers of label, one being something you can fold as "cover", but its flyer/tracklist type of thing rather than traditional "front cover".

Listening Sonic Abuse IV now. I don't know if parts 1-3 exist, but this is an excellent tape. The artwork and teaser video linked on New Releases section caught my attention. Lovely cover image and the material fits perfectly for self-dubbed tape format. Suffocating and rotten noise and with constantly evolving buried sounds of chains, clatter and rumble. I like those squealing loops on the first track. B-side has some vocals also. "Sick from piss" is a great title (it can happen).

Radiosonde - Meter Sickness (Ground Fault Recordings)

The White Centipede Discord erupted with a Ground Fault discussion yesterday, and it was easy to get invested in.  The label dropped some absolute classics of noise that you can still find at a very reasonable price.  I have heard it be likened to a "high brow version of PURE" before, and yeah, I think that is an apt way to describe it.  Anyways, the discussion of "best in the series" occurred, and this one came up.  Never heard it, knew the name though.  I could make this my morning commute record.

I am glad that my expectations of harsh blasting affair was not met.  Instead, this record pulses at a slow burn pace.  Sounds are gradually introduced, but do not change much once brought in.  Those gradual changes do make a worlds difference when they occur though.  It is hypnotic; reminds me almost of Coil's Time Machines in regards to its patience to let sounds layer and develop.

Developer - WCN008 (White Centipede Noise)

Lunchtime listen is harsh and filthy.  Feels appropriate for the changing of the seasons.  I hate the heat, and this tape is doing a great job of adding to an already oppressive climate.  Underrated aspect of Developer's work is the psychedelic nature of it; some guitars playing in reverse crop up and help to break up the hellfire here and there. 

Excellent tape.

Last night's playlist was a good mix.  Noted is the fact that in this period of Wolf Eyes, they did a lot of much shorter releases than you would usually associate with them; C10s instead of C90s.  And ya know what?  They were pretty good at it!

Beaulieau reissue I grabbed from RRRon a couple years back.  Surprised that he made a public announcement about this reissue, as I always thought the policy was "if I have the master tape, I will make you a copy."  Regardless of that fact, this tape still packs a punch as much as it did on its first listen.  I struggle to remember what the order of the records are right now though...

Guilty Connector - Cosmic Trigger/2AM Visit (Ground Fault Recordings)

Revisited yesterday, but cannot stop thinking about how this disc has still held up for me after all this time.  EXTREME harsh noise is a flavor that I am very selective with nowadays.  I had not listened to this one in about 3 years.  While earlier harsh noise of Japan like Merzbow and Kazumoto Endo have these psychedelic or dada-ist attributes to them, Guilty C. is ALL heavy metal; heavy metal drums, heavy metal screaming... hell, he's even done some heavy metal sampling over the years.  I entered this release thinking "will this sort of style still resonate with me after all this time?"

Answer is a resounding "hell yes."  This not just an array of mindless pedal smashing for 40+ minutes.  Structure is evident, and you do even get some goofy moments in there (one track makes use of a lot of turntable from a cartoonish angle).  While I think I would cut maybe a track or 2 off this (the latter half has a couple of "false endings"), it is still a highly enjoyable listen, particularly in early morning settings.

Blind Date Lying All the Time (Idiopathic Records)

Kicking myself for not grabbing it when the artist reissued this one.  Stupid stupid stupid.

So yeah, obviously another great work from Blind Date.  One of the few acts in this social media-heavy age that feels like it still has some air of mystery to it.  I saw that he will be playing his first show in some time this summer.  I don't think I will be in town for it, but am curious to see what direction  he will take things.  The last release to come out, Thank You  was a departure from the work of a tape like the one that is currently playing.

Frataxin & Tanner Garza - Coward's Intuition (H8-Track Stereo)
Frataxin - Frataxin (No Rent)

Not exactly "pleasant" morning music, but it does the job to wake you up.  I have to give Frataxin credit for being the first time I saw noise in a live arena.  I think Joe Satkowski was really the only guy in New Jersey at the time making this kind of stuff AND playing shows to back it up.  This wasn't some basement dweller shit, this was a guy who was confronting you with the uncomfortable sides of life with the most uncomfortable sounds at his disposal; 2 microphones, a couple pedals and an amplifier.  It works to great effect still. 
The live sets of Frataxin (which I saw many of) were so intense that it was easy to forget he had tapes of this shit too.  And as it turns out, the tapes are also pretty good!  Tanner Garza's ambient workings pair well with Joe's pained screams for this little dirge; chopped n screwed remake was a funny surprise too.  The No Rent tape is probably the best representation of the project in the recorded format.  Always hope that the project would resurface for more in the future, but I am not sure how likely that is.  Either way, he left behind a pretty solid chunk to dig into for now.

It was mentioned elsewhere that he was working on some new material. Not sure if it's promised to a specific label or how far along it's come, but exciting news none the less. I'm looking forward to seeing him perform at Summer Scum this year.

Only release I'm missing from Blind Date is Levitation Game on Dead Gods if anyone wants to sell me a copy!

Viodre - Interpol Alchemi (Hospital Productions)

Could this be the most ambitious work from the Viodre project?  This initial listen is telling me it is.  You have your typical harsh noise jams in spades, but the shorter interludes throughout the middle of the record break up the action.  It is like if the camera kept rolling after a scene in a movie.  This could be a weird comparison to make, given that we are talking noise, but this piece evokes a similar feeling in me that The Beatles's "A Day in the Life" does.  I can visualize the action that both pieces set out to do.  Viodre's timeline might be a bit more violent, but is nonetheless emotionally invigorating.
