MERZBOW "Venereology" CD
I was listening to new episode of WCN podcast, people telling about their top noise releases ever. No objections really. Can't say I would have been disturbed or agitated (haha!), but lets say... Pulse Demon, as great as the album is, it just can't be the best Merzbow. If it was first thing you heard, ok, I get it and 100% approve. Losing virginity is one thing. But if one heard bunch of Merz CD's and Pulse demon wasnt the first, I can't think how it could be even in Merz top-10! As a test, I threw Veneorology original CD (not the revisioned new one) in CD player, and as I write this, its 3rd time I play it in a row. Instant replay is necessary. Thats how good it is. And its not even the best Merzbow. Its just one of those albums you can anytime listen all evening. Multiple times. Its not Artificial Invagination. Not Noisembryo. Not Metalvelodrome... but right there.
I recall some people say its like Merzbows death metal album. Just brutal, not playful or innovative. More focusing on sheer brutality. Well, despite big part of DM might suck, at its best death metal is something that "death metal noise" wouldnt feel like derogatory remark! Possible, we could even need more death metal harsh noise?! Masculine, slightly technical and brutal, no slam, no triggers, no wimps, no posers, long hair mosh noise like Merzbow.
Night Science #1 zine + CDR
At one point I was wondering do I have all Night Science magazines. I am pretty damn sure I have, but this issue #1 was not in folders where I have noise zines, but it was among oversized CD releases. At the same time, feels like it aint that old label, but when you think of it, it is urprisingly old. Zine+CDR from 2002. I got all big part of Cipher discography, starting from the very first ones. Now listening and reading. Curious to read Bizarre Uproar interview from times when Sir Lankinen was involved as 2nd member. He is rarely mentioned. K2 just put out the original Sexencyclopedia" 4xCD set and full of energy in this interview, saying he will never stop and keeps doing gigs, releases etc.. but I think he quickly after this dropped out for a while.
Guilty Connector is quite early days of project when giving this interview. Very strong track on comp CDR! Really good stuff from others too.
Zine is nice document of time when regular mail still going strong, but also email contacts becoming available and all sorts of angerfire , geocities, tripod websites are listed.
