HOH - HOH (Freak Animal)
More broken sound exploration to start the day. Picked this one up from Tribe Tapes distro after having it hyped up a lot as something I would enjoy.  Those who suggested were right; I find myself quite fond of this style.  It sounds like the man's gear is just barely holding together.  Honestly gets so broken at points that I feel like I am listening to a defective tape slowly eat away at itself.  Yuck!  This is the second time in as many days that this disc has made its way into my player.  Maybe it gets a third...

Eye Contact - Impure Moods (Fantasy Knife)

DVDr for a new audio and visual project by Kiran Arora.

Imagery degradation and oversaturation for truly vibrant cascading bands of light. Very active and fast-paced filter sweeps, oscillators, and all kinds of cut-up synth noises.

Feels like an MK Ultra brainwashing program. Complete sensory overload. Recreational drug use would only enhance this already enjoyable experience.

Note: Definitely not for photosensitive individuals.

I'm so glad this one got a repress last year! This CD has also made It's way in my player for multiple listens as well and I absolutely love your accurate description of the material as being "broken sound exploration" That's an absolutely perfect way of describing HÖH sound production. I think that's one thing that keeps that project quite unique is that the sound is beyond lo-fi production in some sense, but yet conjurs this unbelievable atmosphere that can leave one in sheer awe and amazement! Some very captivating moments in their music hidden in the murky fogged production!

When the first edition came, I made only 100, as I thought besides me, there would be so few people into so low-tech crude noise. There was these others done in 2010-2013, like OWL tapes anthology CD, Ashley C cd, Haare "regresses" CD (low-tech regressed noise as opposed to elegant epic drone..) followed by YANA, KSNK, etc that was not always as rough, but nevertheless in such realms.
I suppose we can partly thank Satatuhatta for "popularizing" things in ways that it got noticed. Of course FA releases were noticed in a way that they usually sold out, but I doubt people were talking about it from perspective it was something fresh and new? Perhaps when you look FA discography, there are like OWL cd.. and next is Brethren. Or Wince, Haare, Rotat, followed by three Zyklon SS titles, Encephalophonic and then HÖH. Some distributors would most likely not be "lets check out this band I don't know", but perhaps more like "..yuck! I ain't touching this", haha... Copies that are sold, is always pretty much the same, so it is hard to measure are bands more exposed more known, or not.

It is little surprising that I am running low on copies of 2nd press of HÖH already now.

MERZBOW "Venereology" CD
I was listening to new episode of WCN podcast, people telling about their top noise releases ever. No objections really. Can't say I would have been disturbed or agitated (haha!), but lets say... Pulse Demon, as great as the album is, it just can't be the best Merzbow. If it was first thing you heard, ok, I get it and 100% approve. Losing virginity is one thing. But if one heard bunch of Merz CD's and Pulse demon wasnt the first, I can't think how it could be even in Merz top-10! As a test, I threw Veneorology original CD (not the revisioned new one) in CD player, and as I write this, its 3rd time I play it in a row. Instant replay is necessary. Thats how good it is. And its not even the best Merzbow. Its just one of those albums you can anytime listen all evening. Multiple times. Its not Artificial Invagination. Not Noisembryo. Not Metalvelodrome... but right there.
I recall some people say its like Merzbows death metal album. Just brutal, not playful or innovative. More focusing on sheer brutality. Well, despite big part of DM might suck, at its best death metal is something that "death metal noise" wouldnt feel like derogatory remark! Possible, we could even need more death metal harsh noise?! Masculine, slightly technical and brutal, no slam, no triggers, no wimps, no posers, long hair mosh noise like Merzbow.

Night Science #1 zine + CDR
At one point I was wondering do I have all Night Science magazines. I am pretty damn sure I have, but this issue #1 was not in folders where I have noise zines, but it was among oversized CD releases. At the same time, feels like it aint that old label, but when you think of it, it is urprisingly old. Zine+CDR from 2002. I got all big part of Cipher discography, starting from the very first ones. Now listening and reading. Curious to read Bizarre Uproar interview from times when Sir Lankinen was involved as 2nd member. He is rarely mentioned. K2 just put out the original Sexencyclopedia" 4xCD set and full of energy in this interview, saying he will never stop and keeps doing gigs, releases etc.. but I think he quickly after this dropped out for a while.
Guilty Connector is quite early days of project when giving this interview. Very strong track on comp CDR! Really good stuff from others too.
Zine is nice document of time when regular mail still going strong, but also email contacts becoming available and all sorts of angerfire , geocities, tripod websites are listed.

Pokémaster – Catch This Fucker! (Reanimated Miscarriage)

Short maniacal outbursts of rage by the master Jim "Deterge" Haras (Fusty Cunt), savagely screaming the names of all 151 Pokemon in an extremely fast and furious manner. Guitar shred and feedback, blasting percussive junk-drums. Side A sounds like he could using an old dusty 'acoustic' drum kit and Side B sounds possibly like a drum machine. Ridiculous caveman-esque NOISECORE! With a runtime of 2:41 squished onto a C-3 cassette tape. The cover is a "Pokeball" illustrated as a grenade. Such a creative and absurd concept - the mind boggles.

Sewer Election - Vidoppna Sar (PAN)
One of those standout LPs from the controversial PAN label.  Not sure I know the full extent of the beef people had with this label, but I am just focused on the noise here.  A-Side is an assault of the sense with scrap metal superiority.  Reminds me of Mania at times with how claustrophobic it gets.  B-Side sounds like a ton of voices being garbled through Dan's tape deck.  Ends beautifully with some sort of organ loop to close out.  Lovely.

Prurient - Adam Tied to Stone (Blossoming Noise)
With how prolific Dom was in this time, I find this EP gets lost in the fray of releases that people will bring up from this run.  It's really good!  Finds a good way to balance the emotional nature of Pleasure Ground and some more of his shitnoise leanings that limited run cassettes like Whooping Cough would bring (especially with the drum use buried in here).  It's worth seeking out if you want some Prurient from this era that may have passed you by.

Prurient - The Ken Geiger Album (RRR)
Feel like I'm not bursting any bubbles typing this one out.  Ron himself told of these records in his book, and I trust most of us on here know the deal with these records.  So I will come out and discuss it - this was the third record in the series that I grabbed, having gone up to Lowell on my birthday amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.  What a trip it is to see me with that mask on - hah!
This series is a fun one in how those who own multiple of them will give you their ranking of them, ask you which you like most, etc.  And I guess the same can be said for the other mainstays of the RRR series - PURE, Recycled, etc. As far as this one goes in the in-store series though, I'd rank it near the upper echelon.  The A-Side is a total manic burst of junk.  B-Side is where it really shines though, with Dom doing this extremely weird cut-up yelping of sorts.  It's not his usual passionate vocal.  It's weirder.  Reminds me of Gero for some reason.  Towards the end of this side, some sort of classical music sampling comes in.  There is definitely a bit of this that was reused on the collab with Kevin Drumm.  Similar to acts like Macronympha, Prurient often workshops certain sounds across various releases, so getting to hear each step along the way is a fun treat if you can pick them out.  Speaking of guys who love to workshop sounds...

Aaron Dilloway - Corpse on Horseback (Ergot Records, reissue)
What can you really say that hasn't been said about this one?  It's tape work at its finest.  The rhythmic work is unmatched.  Junk and distortion levels are just sitting right in the mix, never too overbearing.  It's the complete picture.  Phenomenal.

Murder Corporation "One life by murder" CD. Excellent, quite atmospheric Italian stuff. Amusing thing in this concept album is that he has been sampling audio from Finnish version of the documentary. Russian serial killer, but suddenly you get the "Rostov on nyt pimeänä, sillä sähköä ei ole" -line coming at the end of track 7!  I did send mr. Murder Corpration some VHS tapes back in the day. It is curious times when you would interact with other people in different way. Internet times, one doesn't necessarily need to tell others what you are looking for. Like Slogun interview in Noisextra podcast where he tells about friends hunting & trading serial killer books etc. In sleaze VHS trades, book trades etc, you would get to know quite interesting details of other peoples preferences, that may not be so clear anymore when searching things with privacy of online surfing, as opposed to asking friends and other contacts for stuff.

Deathpile / Whorebutcher CDR. I mentioned many times I have sold quite a lot of CDRs from my collection, but I still got hundreds. Troniks/Pacrec collection alone is massive, but also there are other artists or/and publishers. Like, if this Deathpile title won't be reissued, then I have no chance than keep the CDR. Works fine. Many vote for GR to be his masterpiece, but I think as good as that album is, especially vocals, earlier material had often way better electronics. This split CDR being good example! Sodality cover song is excellent too! When this type of PE started to emerge, it was a bit different from the old school. Now it was HEAVY and thick, with aggro vocals.

Building Of Gel "Red" tape
I may have posted about this Building of Gel tape before, but its on todays playlist so....  One of the 90's Japanese noise names that have been forgotten. I would estimate tape on Freak Animal was the first? Then there was Self Abuse, Less Than Zero and some more. None of these vastly popular, but great stuff. Multiple members, technologically advanced and original sounding stuff.

Government Alpha split with Dogliveroil was reissued, GA side, on the CD box set. Dogliveroil side is just demented UK noise. Weird, "funny", often weirdo stuff, with dosage of harsh noise blast. G.A. Side, harsh noise master class. I simply can't remember when I first got in touch with mr. G.A. I know I head it on Susan Lawly comp. So it was very first GA track he made, but I do have most of early days tapes, had a lot of Xerxes CDR, and feels like man was always there, so no idea when first time in contact. It is Japanese artists I seen most gigs. Definitely. Seen his visual art exhibition in Osaka.

Thule Society "The myth of the twintieth century" tape+zine. I recall there was plan that this would be reissued on CD? It is not power electronics. Not really noise either. More like experimental sound collage and each side ending with electronic signal resemling single sine wave tone. Like test signal. Partially excellent, partially challenging material. I do like idea that it would be reissued, BUT only if it comes in full glory. If artwork compromised, would make no sense. Due 60 min duration, LP makes no sense. CD in similar size booklet would be ideal.

I've been on a Dilloway trip for the past few weeks it seems like. Absolutely lovely tape shenanigans on both Medicine Stunts and Corpse On Horseback. Wonderfully crafted stuff. Also Freak out your Friends! is an amazing live set. I adore the static worship at the beginning and the playful use of delay and reverb. It feels so alive!

On a side note I have been thoroughly enjoying De sälla jaktmarkerna by Sewer Election + ÅN. There's even some utterly evocative harmonium reminiscent of Nico going on at times. Definitely one of the best albums this year!

Phenol

I'm on a bit of a Stahlwerk 9 tear today. It holds up surprisingly well.

A Thule Society release / reissue -i dont remember which- was planned by Old Captain some years ago. It was written on their site. As well as Blood Ov Thee Christ - On Brad Dod. Seems both are abandoned. I dont think it has to do with the war, dont know, but it was around 2019 [?] .

I had lost an opportunity to buy the BOTC tape at a normal price -dont look Discogs now, what the fuck guys, dont get me started- thinking it will be reissued soon, lets catch 2 Bawler Productions comps instead. Still remember it cause i didnt have another chance since.

Hard agree.  Was bothering Aaron for years to put that out in some capacity.  If I could not convince a friend to go see him live, I would play them this instead to see the magic.

Concern - Crude Vignettes: Upright Piano & Mbira (Iatrogenesis Records)
Started my morning softly with this collection of tape manipulations from Mr. Gordon Ashworth.  I really enjoy what I have heard of Oscillating Innards but never gave his other work much shine.  Shame on me.  This is some great stuff.  Very peaceful and fluid in its motion.

Backpatch - Distort Japan/Distort Poland (Iatrogenesis Records)
Now we can turn up the volume.  This is a duo of Gordon & Charlie Mumma that performed just 4 gigs on a 78 day(!!) tour they did together.  Borrowed equipment, total noisecore fury.  Love it.
