Treriksröset - Heteronormativ Musik För Att Stärka Medelklassens Självbild (WCN reissue)

Venal tracks felt a bit disappointing when I listened the WCN comp for the first time. The somewhat dry sound didn't feel as powerful as I hoped. But now revisiting it, it's a lot tastier! Rotten and bleak are good adjectives. But I got to admit that when Heteronormativ tracks start blasting, it really amped the intensity and for me is the winner of these two. Good compilation to get both on one cd. Sexregler is still my favorite Treriksröset. That weird novella/company report booklet was a nice addition in the new reissue.

K2 – Pathosonico Anatomico 5xtape

Quite nice opposite for "Sexencyclopedia" CD box. Instead of laser sharp noise assault, this is early 80's tapes of K2 showcasing more of his near psychedelic side. There's no markings on the box to indicate what releases these are, but Discogs detectives have dug out the releases by ear. I almost like this material more than the K2 we all know and love. Very bizarre, delay drenched cosmic sounds, occasional drum beat here and there. I think there's a even some sort of porn sample on the second tape, or just my mind doing tricks. Even though there's loads of material it doesn't wear out when listening in long sessions, there's so much variety in a way going on and that this is a whole new type of K2 for me. Definately worth checking out if you are into obscure 80's noise from Japan, or anywhere.

Krigsverk

ROTAT - Static antics CD (Aussaat)

Fucken perfect headcleaner. Rotat never dissapoints. Great packaging also!

PACIFIC 231 - Deep Jet CD (Aussaat)

Hmmm... not as moved by this as I thought I would be. I might just be in the wrong mood for it right now. Slow moving drones/jets non stop just becomes a bit unengaging after a while.

N. - Autofagia 4LP box

Italian cult post mortem electronics, maybe once again overlooked project? Autofagia came out originally in 1998 on Slaughter Productions as 4 tape set. Material is very dead synth ambience/industrial, even more dead than Atrax Morgue. There's no active modulation of the sound, but more subtle, has slight variations. Sometimes extremely low frequencies humming away, and there's also higher frequencies with more modulation. Volume is quite essential when listening to this to dig up all the sounds, some sounds are only thinly heard, and next song shreds your speakers with high pitched squeals. I danced around quite long to wheter get this box on or not, glad I did. What I love about Atrax Morgue is even more amplified here, the soundtrack of the morgue. Last electric impulses pulsing in the nervous system and fittingly the last song on the box sounds like it's just an unplugged instrument cord, ran through pedals, unplugging the patient. As "Autofagia" medical term means, self-devouring. The patient is slowly self-devouring itself, until nothing remains.

Death Squad tour books

Both books are excellent insight to touring life. And they both serve as interesting, and intentional (?) opposites for each other. As first book is man on a mission, Self-annihilation Tour, driving through America in solitude. Collecting thoughts on long drives, paranoia while looking for a place to park the car for sleep, various other struggles while on road for so long. A true testament of determination. Grey colour scheme of the book also adds to the atmosphere. Bleak and desolate. While the second book has also parts from Europe, and traveling with other artists. This adds a great elements in the recollections because there is several other guys perspective of the same events of the gig nights and days between. It's not about desolate noise warrior anymore, but more of desolate group of noise warriors on a strange continent. Colour scheme this time is bright tones of red, reflects the unexpected nature of the tour, odd happenings and otherwordly atmospheres at times, cutting himself night after night. Book also has the end of Death Squad, Michaels feelings about that, which I find very interesting. Such an intense project that had ran it's natural course. Both books include CD's with audio footage which are exceprt from radio shows, live gigs and interviews which greatly adds the immersion, you are actually kind on road with Death Squad. Great releses which are high value for the price if you ask me.

That second tour book is waiting in my "to read" pile. I don't have the first, as 1998-2000 content felt more interesting and intense looking red covers attractive. At first I was unsure if it's good, as I suspected it's full of similar rants as in fuck you booklet. That kind of stream of consciousness is part of the concept and adds the atmosphere, but a whole book full of it would be too much. Luckily, it seems like good stuff indeed. I read the small portion about 98 gig in bleak and miserable Lahti and tried to google where the venue was located. I guess it's the same Fillari Cafe that existed in Sammonkatu 8? There used to be a small clip on Youtube from that event, Michael sitting on the floor, cutting his wrists. I didn't find it anymore.

Currently I'm reading the excellent America's Greatest Noise. Even though Emil Beaulieau is musically not my thing, all the activities related to RRRecords, the way Ron curated his releases, his enthusiasm/obsession and anecdotes make it entertaining and educating read. It also answers what happened to Jessica Rylan. She might not have been the most prominent noise artist, but it was an interesting remark as her show was the first noise-related gig (it was more experimental performance) that I attended. This happened in Lahti as well. Someone was giving flyers on the street and said that there is going to be a noise gig tomorrow. Well it wasn't exactly noise, but I have fond memories from that time period. It happened years later than aforementioned Death Squad.

I was in touch with Jessica while ago, asking if old video footage and interview could be published. She is living "normal family life" so to say. If I get some technical issues solved, maybe it will get done...

Lahti show. Any details? I was part of organizing that tour but simply zero recollections of Lahti show. I remember things of Tampere and all the driving, but Lahti... not unless it was petformance arts event with "Grunt", I dont remember anything,

I actually found one crappy photo from my hard drive. It was at Taidepanimo, October 2006. Venue was located in the same block where art museum Malva is now. One guy used to organize an art club, with performances and music.

Zeno Marx

Paul G. Smyth/John Wiese - The Outlier 2022 - one track, 54 minutes - reminiscent of Nurse with Wound - brooding keys, dragging chains, container reverb, with an overall dark and patient atmosphere of 35+ years ago.
"the overindulgent machines were their children"
I only buy vinyl, d00ds.

Encephalophonic: surgical mods.
A compilation that sounds like a full length.

Outback - A Mouthful Of Sand (Immorality Crown)

Whoever the fuck put this out is insane and definitely doesn't live in Australia, but it precisely captures the outback 'Wake in Fright' /Mad Max-esque grit which has been done a couple of times before in offgrid/ power-electronics but I think this holds the hammer. Stark and cold but shovels an appropriate handful of diversity without too much of a barrage of movie samples. Australiana desert lunacy. Highly recommended. Definitely a head-spinner.

Glad you dig, m8. We did 3 releases for Outback and called it quits. May do a "rarities" comp tape in the future.

We recently started a new project called "Forced Entry" that's in the same vein. Just more vile.

Sounds dreamy. Would love to sometime.

EXECUTIONISTS - The Gerry Commission s/sided C80 (Head Meat, 2024)
Recently released instant repeater. Themed around the electric chair, and the sounds really do live up to it. Constant high pressure frying, unhinged psycho tones, saturated blast and burn.  Sort of blends the eelish jitteryness of Monde Bruits with barbaric noise americana. Perfect, really. Fucking demonic. Almost reaches Worth - Hamper levels of possession.

OUTDOOR HORSE SHRINE - Water Course CS (Head Meat, 2024)
My first encounter with OHS (incredible name), and I need more. Very much sculpted out of old Deadline dirt, but in an uncontrived and seemingly effortless way. Long nightmarish roaring cascades. Shares the same pallette of haluci colors as Executionists, but the picture painted differs. Bigger strokes, cruder tools, but stare long enough at the fibres and the detail pops out just as much. Then comes the closing rager of a track, sounding even more monde bruitish than the other example above, upping the psychosis levels more than a notch. A big leap from American Deadline dirt, but still with pockets full of said dirt, lending coherence. Whatever dead bugs and animal droppings this fella snorted, I need some too. Dangerously great.

Emulating old noise crunch is one thing, but to actually manage to tap into whatever hell force that inspired Dopefiend, Torture Machinist, Baroque, Portuguese, Krang et al, sap it and turn it into a brew of your own... Rejuvenating timeless poison is what this is. Satatuhatta has some. Don't sleep!
